Kia has recently introduced the Carens Clavis, aiming to reposition its vehicle lineup. This move mirrors Hyundai's strategy with the Creta and Alcazar, which cater to different buyer segments with two-row and three-row options. The question remains: what unique offerings does Kia bring with the Carens Clavis to make it a strong contender in this competitive market?
Features
Both the Carens Clavis and Hyundai Alcazar boast similar high-end features. These include dual-zone climate control, dual digital screens with wireless phone mirroring, and a powered driver's seat with ventilation for front passengers. Additionally, they offer LED lighting packages, connected car technology, and level-2 ADAS with a 360-degree camera.
Rear Seat Amenities
In terms of rear-seat amenities, both vehicles provide seat back tray tables in their six-seat configurations. However, the Carens Clavis only offers this feature on the left side. The boss function for extra space is available for the left rear passenger in both cars. While Alcazar uses buttons for this function, it's manually operated in the Carens Clavis.
The Alcazar provides ventilation and under-thigh support for second-row passengers, features absent in the Carens Clavis. Moreover, while the Alcazar offers a six-seat option across various trims, this is limited to the top-spec variant in the Carens Clavis. The Kia boasts a longer wheelbase compared to Hyundai's overall length advantage.
Safety & Powertrain
Safety features are robust in both models, including six airbags, ABS with EBD, stability programs, and ISOFIX child seat mounts. Engine options for both vehicles include a 1.5-litre turbo petrol and a 1.5-litre diesel engine, available with manual and automatic transmissions.
The Carens Clavis also offers an entry-level 1.5-litre NA petrol engine paired exclusively with a six-speed manual transmission. This engine configuration is available only in the Premium (O) variant across all three engine choices.
Pricing Expectations
Hyundai's Alcazar is priced between Rs. 17.22 lakh and Rs. 21.54 lakh (ex-showroom). Meanwhile, Kia will announce pricing for the Carens Clavis on 23 May. It is anticipated to range from Rs. 12 lakh to Rs. 21 lakh.
