KGM Motors UK Raises Funds For Shipton Moyne Recreation Ground In Honour Of Martin Allies
KGM Motors UK, previously known as SsangYong, has successfully raised £2,112.50 for the Shipton Moyne Recreation Ground in memory of Martin Allies. Martin, a cherished colleague and friend, passed away in August 2024. He was a respected figure in the motor industry for over four decades and joined KGM in 2018. The funds were raised through a month-long challenge covering 5,400 miles.
The symbolic distance from KGM's Swindon head office to the Maldives was chosen because it was a place dear to Martin and his wife Kate. The money collected during this initiative was divided equally between two causes. Half went to the Shipton Moyne Recreation Ground, which held special meaning for Martin, while the other half supported Cancer Research UK, KGM’s national charity of choice.
The funds will enhance and maintain the village's recreation ground near Martin's family home. This includes supporting the beloved fireworks display Martin organised and upgrading playground facilities for local children, including his twin grandsons. Kevin Griffin, Managing Director at KGM Motors UK, expressed that they wanted to honour Martin by giving back to a community he cherished.
"We wanted to do something that not only remembered Martin but also gave back to the community he loved dearly," said Kevin Griffin. "Martin meant an enormous amount to everyone here at KGM and across our dealer network and is deeply missed by all. This fundraising effort is just one small way we can continue his legacy and support his loved ones, as well as celebrate a place he held very close to his heart."
KGM Global (formerly KGM Motor Company) is a Korean manufacturer specialising in 4x4s, SUVs, MPVs, and pick-up trucks. Founded in 1954, it initially produced trucks and buses for export markets. Its headquarters are in Seoul's Gangnam district with a main plant in Pyungtaek capable of producing 240,000 cars annually.
The company has invested in a new factory nearby dedicated to electric vehicle production. In 2011, Bassadone Automotive Group acquired UK distribution rights for KGM vehicles. Operating as KGM UK Limited, it imports and distributes vehicles, parts, and accessories across the UK.
Future Growth Strategy
KGM UK Limited has transformed recently with new management focusing on expanding its dealer network to 80 by 2024. It offers UK customers a range of SUVs and pick-ups with generous specifications at competitive prices.
