Kerala's First Hydrogen Fuel Cell Bus Launched At Cochin International Airport: All Details Here
EKA Mobility, in collaboration with KPIT Technologies and Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited (BPCL), has launched Kerala's first hydrogen fuel cell bus at Cochin International Airport in Kochi. This 9-meter bus, accommodating over 30 passengers, represents a significant step towards zero-emission transportation. The initiative is part of a three-year Proof of Concept project to assess the bus's performance and potential applications.
At the recent Global Hydrogen and Alternative Energy Summit in Kochi, this project was highlighted as a testament to these organisations' dedication to green transport solutions. The bus features advanced hydrogen fuel cell technology developed by KPIT, reflecting EKA Mobility's commitment to sustainable transport innovation. EKA Mobility has secured investments from Mitsui & Co., Ltd. of Japan and VDL Groep of the Netherlands.

BPCL has established a hydrogen production and fueling station in Kochi, providing essential infrastructure for this venture. This collaboration not only introduces a zero-emission transport mode but also sets the stage for hydrogen vehicle adoption in Kerala. The initiative aims to transform the transportation sector by promoting eco-friendly travel options.
Dr. Sudhir Mehta, Founder and CEO of EKA Mobility, highlighted the project's significance: "The introduction of our hydrogen fuel cell buses in Kochi underscores our commitment to innovation and sustainable mobility." This statement underscores the company's dedication to advancing clean transportation solutions.
Sri Kishor Patil, MD & CEO of KPIT Technologies, expressed similar sentiments: "We are committed to working on hydrogen fuel cell technology and other green solutions. We are delighted to be technology partners in this collaborative initiative with EKA Mobility and BPCL. Together we are building a green ecosystem with hydrogen fuel cell-powered buses as its centerpiece, fulfilling the net-zero goals of major infrastructure projects in Kerala."
This effort extends beyond introducing an alternative transport mode; it sets a benchmark for Kerala's public transport future. By demonstrating hydrogen-powered buses' potential, EKA Mobility, KPIT Technologies, and BPCL encourage investment in green hydrogen infrastructure.
Future Prospects for Clean Mobility
This initiative at Cochin International Airport supports hydrogen fuel-powered public transport as an efficient zero-emission energy source. It promises a greener future for Kerala's infrastructure projects by establishing policies that will help proliferate this technology rapidly.
