MG Motor India Sees 256% Surge In January 2025: Windsor EV Effect?
JSW MG Motor India experienced a significant surge in sales for January 2025, with a total of 4,455 units sold. This marks an impressive 256% increase compared to the same month last year. Electric vehicles played a crucial role, contributing 70% to the overall sales figures. The Windsor EV, in particular, has been instrumental in driving this growth.
Despite the annual growth, there was a noticeable decline in month-on-month sales. In December 2024, MG Motor India sold 7,516 units, indicating a 40% drop in January. Nevertheless, the Windsor EV remains a top seller and crossed the 10,000 sales milestone in December. It continues to be a key contributor to the brand's success.
Upcoming Models & Strategic Plans
The company is preparing for two new launches in the coming weeks. These additions are expected to further bolster its market presence. MG Motor India has also introduced new MG Select premium dealerships. These outlets will feature upcoming models like the Cyberster electric convertible sports car and the MG M9 electric luxury panel van.
Pre-bookings for these new models began on February 1, 2025. The brand is optimistic about these offerings enhancing its growth trajectory. Additionally, MG Motor plans to introduce the Majestor premium SUV later this year. This model will be positioned above the Gloster and compete with vehicles such as the Toyota Fortuner and Isuzu MU-X.
Electric Vehicle Segment Growth
The electric vehicle lineup from MG Motor includes models like the Windsor, ZS EV, and Comet. The recently launched Windsor has significantly contributed to sales growth over recent months. Despite a price increase of up to ₹50,000 last month for the Windsor EV, it remains popular among consumers.
The Majestor will also challenge compact luxury SUVs from brands like Mercedes-Benz, Audi, and BMW. With these strategic moves and product introductions, MG Motor India aims to strengthen its foothold in both electric and premium vehicle segments.
