Third-Generation Jeep Compass Unveiled In ICE, Hybrid & EV Guises - But Not For India
The newest iteration of the Jeep Compass has been unveiled in Europe, showcasing an array of advanced features and design enhancements. This third-generation model, which shares its foundational elements with the Citroen C5 Aircross, presents a more sophisticated interior and a variety of powertrain options including mild-hybrid, plug-in hybrid, and a fully electric version. Despite its comprehensive upgrades, plans to introduce this model to the Indian market have been shelved.
The new Compass, with its design cues borrowed from the larger Grand Cherokee, exhibits a more robust and muscular appearance than its predecessor. Highlighted by Jeep's iconic 7-slot grille—now illuminated and partially obscured—the vehicle's front end pairs neatly with simplified, rectangular LED Matrix headlights. The front bumper, adorned with black plastic cladding and a prominent air intake, varies slightly across different versions. Moreover, the introduction of an active grille shutter and air ducts strategically placed around the wheel arches enhances the vehicle's aerodynamic performance.

Moving to the vehicle's side profile, it features pronounced wheel arches and a distinct shoulder line, alongside deeply contoured doors. The tapering window line at the rear and the contrasting black roof and pillars add to its appeal. The Compass also sports new dual-tone, five-spoke alloy wheels. Its rear aesthetics are particularly striking, with a contrasting finish around the tail lamp enclosure that adds a sense of cohesion to its design. The light bar connecting the two-part tail lamps, with an illuminated Jeep logo at its center, further accentuates its rear view.
Interior Design and Technological Advancements
Inside, the Jeep Compass undergoes a significant overhaul with a new 16.0-inch central touchscreen and a 10.-inch digital instrument cluster, both standard across all variants. The cabin's modernity is further enhanced by touch-based controls, sleek air vents, and a neatly organized center console featuring a terrain mode selector. The use of aluminum and wooden accents throughout the dashboard elevates the vehicle's luxury feel.

The Compass is also well-equipped with a panoramic sunroof, wireless charging, a head-up display, connected car technology, and the capability for over-the-air updates, ensuring both comfort and convenience for its occupants. Jeep asserts that this new model surpasses its predecessor in terms of space and practicality, offering a more premium experience.
Powertrain Options and Off-Road Capabilities
Built on Stellantis' STLA Medium platform, the new Compass inherits the hybrid and electric drivetrains seen in the Citroen C5 Aircross. It begins with a 145hp, 1.2-litre petrol engine accompanied by a 0.9kWh battery and 48V mild-hybrid technology. The plug-in hybrid variant combines a 1.6-litre petrol engine with a 125hp electric motor, achieving a total output of 195hp. The all-electric models offer two battery sizes—73kWh and 97kWh—delivering ranges of 500km and 650km, respectively, according to the WLTP cycle.
The all-electric Compass, with its adjustable suspension system, offers up to 200mm of ground clearance and a 470mm wading depth. Its shortened overhangs contribute to improved approach, breakover, and departure angles, enhancing its off-road proficiency. Exclusive to the electric version, an additional 10mm suspension lift further increases its off-road capabilities.

The new Compass is already available for order in Europe, with deliveries expected to commence in the fourth quarter of 2025. Production will take place at Stellantis' Melfi plant in Italy. However, despite its comprehensive enhancements, the next-gen Compass will not reach Indian shores due to the STLA Medium platform's lack of commercial viability. With the current Compass model achieving modest triple digit monthly sales figures, the anticipated volumes for the new model may not have met Jeep's standards to ensure a launch in India.
