Jaguar Land Rover Restores Global Production After Six-Week Cyberattack Shutdown
Jaguar Land Rover has officially resumed production across all its global manufacturing facilities, marking the end of a six-week cyberattack-induced shutdown that cost the company nearly GBP 50 million per week. The final phase of recovery was completed with the restart of operations at the Halewood plant in Merseyside, UK.
JLR Completes Recovery With Halewood Restart
The Halewood plant's restart is particularly significant as it produces two of JLR's highest-volume models - the Range Rover Evoque and Land Rover Discovery Sport. With this, all three of JLR's UK manufacturing sites - Halewood, Solihull, and Wolverhampton - are now fully operational. The reboot also revives the ongoing GBP 500 million transformation project at Halewood, which will see the plant retooled for future electric models.

JLR described the recovery as a "controlled and phased restart", with engine and component lines resuming first, followed by the high-value vehicle assembly lines at Solihull, which produces the Range Rover and Range Rover Sport, and Nitra, Slovakia, where the Defender is built. This gradual ramp-up was necessary to verify the security and integrity of JLR's rebuilt IT systems and to ensure supply chain stability following the cyberattack.
Lingering Challenges
Although all plants are back online, JLR faces the challenge of restoring full production capacity. Industry experts estimate that the ramp-up to normal output could take several weeks as the company clears a significant order backlog, particularly for its premium models.
The cyberattack, attributed to a hacker group known as Scattered Lapsus$ Hunters, reportedly exploited a vulnerability in SAP NetWeaver software to access sensitive customer and operational data. The shutdown is believed to have wiped out around GBP 1.5 billion in potential revenue, with wholesale dealer sales in the September quarter plunging nearly 25 percent to 66,165 units.
DriveSpark Thinks
Despite the financial blow, JLR's ability to restore full global operations signals major progress to investors, suppliers, and customers. The completion of the phased restart reaffirms the company's resilience and its commitment to modernising production systems as it transitions towards a new generation of electric vehicles.
