One of the standout features of the Bugatti Calandre is its reference to the legendary Bugatti Type 41 Royale. Two intricately sculpted Dancing Elephants, an artistic homage to Rembrandt Bugatti, adorn the clock. These elephants lean symmetrically towards each other, a style reminiscent of many Lalique clock designs. This artistic touch highlights the deep connection between the two brands.
The name "Calandre" itself is a nod to Bugatti's French roots, translating to "radiator grille." This celebrates the iconic horseshoe grille found on Bugatti vehicles. The crystal case of the Bugatti Calandre is meticulously handcrafted at Lalique’s workshops in Wingen-sur-Moder, France. Founded in 1922, these workshops have honed techniques over decades to achieve unmatched clarity and brilliance in their crystal creations. Molten crystal is poured into engineered steel molds before being cooled and solidified into intricate sculptures.
Artisans spend months refining each surface to enhance textures and polish finishes after casting. This meticulous process ensures that every detail is accentuated when light passes through the crystal, bringing depth and dimension to sculpted elements like elephants through light and shadow play.
