IONNA Announces Transition To Full-Scale National Release Of EV Charging Network Across The U.S.
IONNA, a collaboration of eight major automakers, has transitioned from its public beta phase to a full-scale national rollout. This initiative, launched in February 2024, aims to enhance electric vehicle (EV) infrastructure across the U.S. The project involves over 100 contracted sites and plans to deploy more than 1,000 charging bays by the end of 2025.
The joint venture includes BMW, General Motors, Honda, Hyundai, Kia, Mercedes-Benz, Stellantis, and Toyota. IONNA's mission is to redefine EV charging with an integrated customer experience. The network will feature advanced technology and retail integration to support urban and long-distance EV travel.

IONNA's commitment extends beyond infrastructure. It represents a significant investment in American jobs and manufacturing. Over the next five years, the construction of 30,000 charging bays will create new employment opportunities nationwide.
Starting in Q1 2025 at Garner, NC, IONNA will introduce AI-powered retail spaces using Amazon's "Just Walk Out" technology. These stores will offer automated grab-and-go options for drivers without checkout lines. This innovation is part of IONNA's strategy to enhance driver convenience.
The company has refined its hardware and software through extensive testing involving over 4,400 charging sessions on more than 80 vehicle models. Nearly 63 thousand kilowatt-hours of energy were dispensed during this phase.
Commitment to Customer Experience
IONNA aims to set a new standard for interoperability with Plug & Charge technology. This feature allows seamless integration with various automakers' vehicles for smart reservations and in-car payments. The goal is to create the most integration-rich charging network in America.
The opening of new Rechargeries in Houston, Texas; Abilene, Kansas; and Willcox, Arizona marks the beginning of this expansion phase. Six additional locations are currently under construction.
Future Plans
By 2030, IONNA plans to establish over 30,000 ultra-fast charging points nationwide. This effort aligns with their vision of providing reliable coverage and amenities for drivers while supporting EV mobility across the country.
The headquarters and customer experience lab in Durham, NC serve as hubs for ongoing testing and innovation. These facilities underscore IONNA's dedication to delivering a driver-first experience through continuous improvement.
This ambitious project embodies the pioneering spirit of American road trips by offering freedom and reliability through world-class service. IONNA's efforts are not just about infrastructure but also about enhancing the overall driving experience for EV users.
