Investment By Midlands Truck & Van Fuels Oxalis Win With New Mercedes-Benz Actros Trucks
Oxalis has shown its trust in Mercedes-Benz Trucks by ordering 10 Actros tractor units from Midlands Truck & Van, the Dealer of the Year. "This shows our faith not only in the vehicles, but in the investment in people, training and facilities made by Midlands Truck & Van at its Birmingham site," said Oxalis Fleet Engineer Paul Harrison.
The Actros 2446 models are equipped with 10.7-litre six-cylinder engines, each generating 340 kW (460 hp). These trucks have small-wheeled mid-lift axles that save about 300kg compared to standard versions. The choice of 2.3m-wide ClassicSpace cabs and alloy wheels further reduces weight.
Paul Harrison emphasised the importance of service availability when choosing trucks. "Our trucks typically work out of fuel terminals, where we don’t have a workshop of our own on site, so we need a reliable partner," he explained. Midlands Truck & Van's investment in their Birmingham workshop was crucial for Oxalis.
Oxalis operates over 600 trucks across Europe and beyond, delivering fuel, gas, and bitumen. The new Actros units will be used for petrol and diesel deliveries to filling stations nationwide. An additional order of 10 sleeper cab trucks will soon join the fleet for liquid petroleum gas (LPG) deliveries.
Harrison noted that Steve Hunt and Dean Bennett provided assurance that their demanding level of back-up would be available whenever needed. "Managing Director Steve Hunt and Service Manager Dean Bennett have given us all the evidence we could ask for that the demanding level of back-up required for vehicles in our industry will be there whenever we need it," he stated.
Partnership with Daimler Truck UK
Nicola Dainter-Kemsley from Daimler Truck UK expressed satisfaction with working alongside Oxalis. She remarked on the value Oxalis sees in Daimler Truck's offerings and their commitment to the ADR sector in the UK. "I look forward to continuing a successful partnership into the future," she added.
The decision to purchase these new-generation Actros trucks was influenced by Fleet Truck Sales Manager Richard Mason's comprehensive package offer. Harrison acknowledged Mason's role in making this investment decision straightforward.
"Although I’ve worked with Actros trucks in the past these vehicles are of a newest generation, and feature many technological innovations – so, to a certain extent, they have a job to do to prove their worth in our fleet," Harrison mentioned. If these trucks meet expectations, there is potential for further collaboration with Midlands Truck & Van.
