Explore The Innovative Features Of The All-New Third Generation Nissan LEAF

Nissan Motor Co., Ltd. has launched a series of three short videos showcasing the team behind the new Nissan LEAF. This third-generation electric vehicle builds on knowledge gained since the first model's debut in 2010. Over 15 years, nearly 700,000 LEAFs have been sold globally, with owners collectively driving about 28 billion kilometers.

The LEAF is a key model for Nissan, embodying their daring approach as the first mass-market electric car. It strengthens Nissan's brand image with its innovative features. Richard Candler, Vice President of Global Product Strategy, stated, "Beyond EV intenders and innovators we wanted the all-new Nissan LEAF to offer a truly credible alternative to combustion vehicles. We wanted it to balance emotional and rational appeal, ensuring it looks sleek and bold, whilst meeting the real-world needs of families with thoughtful design."

The new LEAF's exterior design focuses on aerodynamics while maintaining a strong presence. The design and engineering teams collaborated to create an EV that is both family-friendly and visually striking. It boasts an impressive drag coefficient of just 0.26 (Cd) for the U.S. and Japan models. European versions achieve an even lower 0.25 Cd due to unique wheel and mirror designs.

Program Design Director Nobutaka Tase explained, "Every design choice was optimized for aero and energy efficiency, even the panoramic glass roof contributes to exceptional aerodynamics. It allowed us to reduce the vehicle height at critical air detachment points by 12 mm - while maintaining ample headroom inside, courtesy of the e-dimming functionality."

The panoramic roof in the new LEAF uses electrochromic technology for comfort throughout the year. This technology adjusts transparency with ion movement within its layers, eliminating traditional blinds or sunshades that reduce headroom. An infrared reflective coating further reduces sun exposure.

Inside, the cabin benefits from Nissan’s CMF-EV platform, providing a flat floor for a spacious feel. The design combines boldness with practicality without compromising on either aspect.

The series will continue to provide more insights into the new LEAF before its global launch later this month.
