Mahindra EVs Witness 500%+ Growth! Tata Motors Maintains Lead
India's electric vehicle market is experiencing significant growth, driven by new model introductions and enhanced charging infrastructure. The sector shows immense potential for increased sales, supported by favourable government policies and shifting consumer preferences. While several popular electric vehicles are already performing well in terms of sales, numerous new models are also set to launch soon.
In June 2025, the electric car market in India saw a notable increase in retail sales, with a 79.95% year-on-year (YoY) rise and a 7.10% month-on-month (MoM) growth, reaching 13,178 units. This was a substantial improvement from the 7,323 units sold in June 2024 and the 12,304 units sold in May 2025.

Tata Motors Leads Electric Car Sales
Tata Motors maintained its position as the leader in India's electric vehicle market with its extensive lineup. In June 2025, Tata's models such as the Tiago EV, Tigor EV, Punch EV, Nexon EV, and Curvv EV achieved retail sales of 4,708 units. This marked a 2.48% YoY increase from the 4,594 units sold in June 2024 and an 8.21% MoM rise compared to May's sales of 4,351 units.
Windsor EV Helps MG Motor
MG Motor secured the second spot with impressive sales figures for its recently launched Windsor EV Pro. The company recorded sales of 3,972 units in June 2025, reflecting a remarkable YoY growth of 168.38% from the previous year's figure of 1,480 units. MoM sales also improved by 5.50%, up from May's total of 3,765 units.

Mahindra's Impressive Growth
Mahindra experienced substantial growth with its existing electric car lineup and new additions like the BE 6 and XEV 9e models. The company's sales soared to 3,029 units in June 2025, representing an extraordinary YoY increase of 523.25% from just 486 units sold in June last year. Hyundai Maintains Steady Growth
Hyundai Motors ranked fourth with strong performance despite a slight MoM decline. The company sold 512 electric cars in June this year-a staggering YoY growth of 712.70%. However, MoM sales decreased by approximately 15.51%, down from May's total of 606 units.
BYD India & BMW Sales Surge
BYD India also reported robust YoY growth with its electric car sales reaching 476 units-an increase of nearly double compared to last year's figure of just over 200 cars sold during that period; however there was a minor setback on monthly basis as numbers fell slightly by around 3%.
BMW India witnessed significant gains too: their retail numbers jumped dramatically both annually (275%) as well monthly (23%), culminating at 214 vehicles being delivered throughout June.
Citroen Faces Challenges
Citroen faced difficulties as their electric car sales plummeted to just 80 vehicles last month-a drastic drop exceeding 66% when compared against previous year's tally which stood at 23units; similarly negative results were observed on month-to-month basis where figures fell further.
Others
Mercedes-Benz showed positive trends though: they managed 94 deliveries marking almost 96% annual improvement alongside nearly 7% monthly uptick. Meanwhile, Kia India enjoyed outstanding demand too achieving 41 transactions translating into 156% yearly gain.
