Indian Car Retail Sales October 2025 – Maruti, Tata, Mahindra Lead The Charge In Record-Breaking Month
India's passenger-vehicle retail market surged in October 2025, with 557,373 units sold across the country, marking an 11.35 per cent year-on-year increase from 500,578 units in October 2024. The Federation of Automobile Dealers Associations (FADA) confirmed it as the industry's second-straight record month for overall four-wheeler retail activity.
Market growth was led by robust festival demand, wider product availability and recent tax revisions under the Goods and Services Tax structure introduced in late September 2025. FADA data show the mid-segment SUVs and compact models accounted for the largest volume share, pushing most manufacturers to new fiscal highs.

Maruti Suzuki India remained India's market leader with 239,567 units, representing a 17.8 per cent gain (+36,220 units) over October 2024's 203,347 units. The brand's share of the Indian car market stood at roughly 43 per cent, driven by sustained demand for the Swift, Fronx, Baleno and Brezza across Tier II and Tier III cities during the festive cycle.
Tata Motors followed with 75,352 units, a 12.6 per cent YoY increase (+8,449 units) compared with 66,903 units in October 2024. Its electric range-Tiago EV, Nexon EV facelift and Punch EV-along with strong sales of ICE models, reinforced Tata's dominance as the second-largest retail carmaker in the country.

Mahindra & Mahindra sold 67,918 units, recording an 8.9 per cent rise (+5,576 units) over October 2024. Demand for the Scorpio-N, XUV700 and Thar contributed to consistent double-digit growth across most regions, maintaining Mahindra's third position in the retail rankings for October.
Hyundai Motor India reported 65,442 units, marking a 6.8 per cent decline (-4,788 units) year-on-year from 70,230 units. The Creta and Exter remained top performers, though the brand's share contracted slightly as homegrown rivals captured greater attention during festive deliveries.
Toyota Kirloskar Motor delivered 34,868 units, up 14.0 per cent (+4,299 units) from 30,569 units in October 2024. Continued success of the Urban Cruiser Hycross and Innova Crysta ensured Toyota's steady climb in the mid-to-premium multi-utility segment.
Kia India sold 32,961 units, improving by 10.6 per cent (+3,153 units) compared with 29,808 units sold over the same period last year. The Seltos and Sonet contributed the majority of volume, with improved production availability at its Anantapur plant supporting dispatch momentum through the festival season.
Škoda-Volkswagen Group India posted 12,202 units, up 35.3 per cent (+3,180 units) from 9,022 units. A host of big incentives on the Taigun, Virtus and Slavia helped the Indian arm of the VW Group push up its sales numbers in October.
Honda Cars India took the 8th spot, selling 7,232 units last month, down 2.2 per cent (-161 units) YoY, while MG Motor India took the 9th spot, delivered 5,819 units last month, down 1.5 per cent (-86 units) YoY.
Renault captured the 10th spot with 5,056 units sold last month, reflecting a 12.8 per cent YoY rise (+575 units) supported by Kwid and Triber sales, while its Alliance partner, Nissan sold 2,562 units, a 5.4 per cent fall (-149 units) amid ongoing model transition plans before new product launches in 2026.
