Hyundai Creta Leads As Top-Selling Car In India For April 2025
The Indian car market experienced a notable month in April 2025, achieving its highest sales figures yet with 3,48,847 units sold. This marks a 4% year-on-year growth. Despite a 7% decline in passenger car sales, the overall market was buoyed by a 10% increase in utility vehicle sales. SUVs and MPVs now represent 67% of total wholesale sales, up from 63% in April 2024.
Top-Selling Models
The Hyundai Creta emerged as the top-selling model with 17,016 units sold, reflecting a 10% year-on-year increase. However, this was a slight decrease from March's figures. The anticipated boost from the Creta Electric launch earlier this year did not materialise as expected. Nevertheless, it remains India's leading midsize SUV.

In second place is the Maruti Dzire with 16,996 units sold. This sedan saw a 7% increase compared to last year and a notable 10% rise from March's numbers. Launched in November of the previous year, the fourth-generation Dzire has become Maruti's best-selling model for April.
The Maruti Brezza secured third place with sales of 16,971 units. Although there was a slight decline of 1% compared to April 2024, it maintained its strong position on the UV sales charts for FY2025. The Brezza continues to be popular among compact SUV buyers.
Performance of Other Models
The Maruti Ertiga continues to be a favourite among buyers with its petrol and CNG options. It sold 15,780 units in April, marking a significant 17% year-on-year growth. The Ertiga has consistently been India's top MPV for six consecutive fiscal years.
Mahindra's Scorpio remains its best-selling model with 15,534 units sold in April. This represents a modest 5% increase compared to last year. The Scorpio models accounted for nearly one-third of Mahindra's total SUV sales for the month.
Tata Nexon also had an impressive month with sales reaching 15,457 units—a substantial 38% increase from April last year. It contributed significantly to Tata's overall PV sales and ranked as India's second-best-selling compact SUV for the month.
Maruti Suzuki's Dominance
The Maruti Swift saw an extraordinary surge in sales with a whopping 256% increase over last year's figures due to the launch of its new generation model in May 2024. However, its month-on-month sales dropped by 18%.
Meanwhile, the Maruti Fronx recorded flat sales at around 14,345 units compared to last year but remained one of the top-selling SUVs for FY2025.
Despite being previously dominant, Maruti Wagon R experienced a significant decline of 25% compared to April last year and also saw reduced month-on-month figures.
Lastly, Maruti Baleno rounded off the list with sales of 13,180 units—a slight decrease from last year's numbers but showing some improvement from March's figures.
Overall, while some models faced challenges in maintaining their momentum from previous months or years due to various factors such as inventory optimisation or changing consumer preferences—the Indian car market continues to show resilience through diverse offerings across different segments like sedans and utility vehicles alike—ensuring that it remains competitive amidst evolving trends within this dynamic industry landscape today!
