MPV Segment Witnesses Growth In FY2025: Maruti Suzuki Dominates

In the fiscal year ending March 31, 2025, India's passenger vehicle market saw sales of approximately 43 lakh units. Among these, MPVs accounted for around 10 percent, with 4,48,233 units sold. The practicality and spaciousness of MPVs make them appealing in India, especially for families who enjoy road trips. Here's a look at the top-selling MPVs of FY2025.

The Maruti Ertiga maintained its position as India's top-selling MPV for the sixth consecutive year. In FY2025, it sold 1,90,974 units, marking a 28 percent increase from the previous year. This model is available in both petrol and CNG versions and remains a favourite among Indian families.

Maruti's Performance in the MPV Segment

Despite the Ertiga's success, Maruti's other models like the XL6 and Invicto experienced a decline in sales. The XL6 saw an 18 percent drop to 37,111 units sold. Meanwhile, the Invicto recorded a 12 percent decrease with 4,036 units sold during FY2025.

Toyota's Innova series also performed well with a total of 1,07,204 units sold in FY2025. This represented a 9 percent increase compared to the previous year. The Innova is available in Crysta and hybrid Hycross variants, with strong demand for the latter boosting overall sales.

Kia's Contribution to MPV Sales

The Kia Carens registered marginal growth with 64,609 units sold in FY2025. This marked a slight increase of 2 percent from the previous year. Known for its spacious interior and multiple powertrain options, the Carens continues to attract large families seeking comfort.

On the luxury end of the spectrum, Kia Carnival managed to sell over 1,000 units despite its high price tag. Launched in October 2024, this model offers enhanced features aimed at improving passenger comfort.

Toyota's Impressive Growth

Toyota's Rumion saw remarkable growth with sales increasing by 266 percent to reach 21,878 units in FY2025. This model is based on Maruti Suzuki's Ertiga and has become popular due to its affordability and practicality.

The ultra-luxurious Toyota Vellfire also experienced significant growth with sales rising by 189 percent to reach 1,155 units. Despite its high price range between Rs 1.22 crore and Rs 1.33 crore, it remains attractive due to its luxurious features.

Renault Triber's Decline

Renault Triber faced challenges as sales declined by 11 percent to reach 19,905 units in FY2025. Its compact size and affordability are appealing; however, its engine performance may have impacted sales negatively.

DriveSpark Thinks

Overall sales figures indicate that while some models thrived due to their practicality or luxury appeal, others struggled amidst changing consumer preferences and market dynamics.
