Hyundai's No. 99 Elantra N TCR Secures Second Place Finish At Canadian Tire Motorsport Park Race

Hyundai's resilience was on full display at the Canadian Tire Motorsport Park 120, where they maintained their lead in the IMSA Michelin Pilot Challenge Manufacturers' Championship. The No. 99 Victor Gonzalez Racing Team Hyundai Elantra N TCR, driven by Eric Powell and Tyler Gonzalez, secured a second-place finish despite numerous on-track incidents. This achievement underscored Hyundai's engineering strength on the challenging 2.459-mile, 10-turn course.

The race weekend kicked off with impressive qualifying performances from Hyundai teams. Mark Wilkins and Bryson Morris in the No. 33 Bryan Herta Autosport (BHA) Elantra N TCR started from pole position. Mason Filippi and Harry Gottsacker in the No. 98 car began fourth, while Powell and Gonzalez in the No. 99 started fifth. The No. 76 BHA entry, driven by Denis Dupont and Preston Brown, started eighth.

As the race commenced, Powell and Gonzalez quickly advanced through the field with aggressive driving. However, a significant incident involving Wilkins and Morris triggered a full-course yellow with just 40 minutes left, ending their race prematurely. Despite this setback for the polesitters, Hyundai teams continued to push forward.

Following the restart, Filippi and Gottsacker faced a tire puncture while running second in the No. 98 Hyundai, forcing an unscheduled pit stop that dropped them down the order. Meanwhile, Powell and Gonzalez capitalised on opportunities to move into second place during the final minutes of the race.

Other Hyundai teams also demonstrated determination throughout the event. Dupont and Brown climbed three positions to finish fifth in the No. 76 car. Aust and Almeida made significant gains in No. 9 to secure seventh place, while Filippi and Gottsacker recovered to finish eighth despite their earlier setback.

The Pegram Racing team of Riley and Larry Pegram gained three positions to finish eleventh in their No. 72 Elantra N TCR entry. These efforts contributed valuable points towards maintaining Hyundai's competitive edge in the championship standings.

Hyundai's Commitment Beyond Racing

In addition to their racing success, Hyundai continues its philanthropic efforts through Hyundai Hope On Wheels by donating $100 for every lap led by a Hyundai Elantra N TCR during the season. Following this race weekend's performance, $400 will be donated to support this cause.

The IMSA Michelin Pilot Challenge season will proceed at Road America on August 2nd at Wisconsin’s renowned circuit, where Hyundai aims to continue its strong performance streak.

Hyundai's Broader Impact

Hyundai Motor America provides a diverse range of vehicles to U.S consumers while supporting global sustainability goals through its Progress for Humanity vision. With extensive operations across North America including manufacturing plants and R&D facilities, Hyundai significantly contributes to local economies by generating jobs and economic activity.

The recent race results highlight not only Hyundai's competitive spirit but also its commitment to innovation both on and off the track as they prepare for upcoming challenges in motorsport events worldwide.
