Hyundai Prime HB, Prime SD Taxis Launched At ₹6 Lakh - Enters Fleet Segment
South Korean carmaker Hyundai has officially entered the fleet vehicles segment with the introduction of two dedicated models, the Prime HB and Prime SD, marking the company's first structured move into commercial vehicle offerings in the Indian market.
The Hyundai Prime HB is priced at ₹5,99,900, while the Prime SD is priced at ₹6,89,900 (all prices are ex-showroom, Delhi). Bookings for both new Hyundai taxis are currently open at dealerships for a token amount of ₹5,000.
Both the Prime HB and Prime SD will be sold in a single trim configuration, designed to prioritise durability and operational efficiency, with limited customisation options aimed at meeting large-volume fleet procurement requirements.
The Prime HB is based on the third-generation Hyundai i20 hatchback, while the Prime SD is derived from the Aura compact sedan, with both vehicles developed specifically for fleet use through simplified specifications and reduced feature options.
Both the new Prime taxis are powered by Hyundai's 1.2-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine, paired with a five-speed manual transmission. Hyundai has added a factory-fitted CNG setup, which means that both taxi options are bi-fuel vehicles.
In Petrol mode, both Hyundai Prime taxis - HB & SD - put out 83PS and 113.8Nm of peak torque. Switching to CNG sees the outputs drop to 69PS and 95.2Nm of peak torque. Both taxis also feature an electronic speed limiter that caps the top speed at 80km/h.
Hyundai has stated that the Prime range offers running costs as low as 47 paise per kilometre. The company has also quoted fuel efficiency figures of 27.32 km/kg for the Prime HB and 28.40 km/kg for the Prime SD.
Standard safety equipment on both models includes dual front airbags, ABS with EBD, rear parking sensors and seatbelt reminders, while several premium convenience and cosmetic features available on retail versions have been omitted. Both taxis will be offered with an a 9-inch infotainment display with wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay as an optional accessory.
Exterior styling on the Prime HB and Prime SD remains largely unchanged from the i20 and Aura, apart from the deletion of select premium elements, with colour options restricted to three solid shades - Polar White, Typhoon Silver and Abyss Black.
Hyundai will retail the Prime HB and Prime SD through a dedicated fleet sales channel, separating them from its standard passenger vehicle network, with pricing structured to suit commercial operators and institutional buyers.
