Hyundai Partners With Banner Children's At Desert To Promote Child Passenger Safety In Arizona
Hyundai Motor America has contributed $25,000 to Banner Children's Injury Prevention program. This initiative, part of Hyundai Hope, aims to enhance child passenger safety education and provide free car seat inspections. The donation will help the hospital improve its educational programs and offer free safety seat checks and installations in the community. This marks Hyundai's first child passenger safety partnership in the Mountain states region.
The collaboration with Banner Children's at Desert builds on Hyundai's existing partnerships with hospitals across the nation. A ceremonial check was presented in Mesa, Arizona. "At Hyundai, ensuring the safety of our customers is top priority, and our dedication to this principle extends beyond our vehicles," stated Cole Stutz, chief safety officer at Hyundai Motor North America. "By collaborating with medical institutions like Banner Children’s, we can reach more families and ensure they have the knowledge and resources to protect their children and other road users."
Research underscores the importance of using safety seats to prevent injuries in child passengers during travel. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) reports that these seats can reduce fatal injury risk by 71% for infants and 54% for toddlers. New federal standards have been introduced to enhance car seat usability and protective features.
Many families face difficulties in acquiring suitable safety seats for their children. This often leads to using expired or recalled seats that are not safe. Programs that educate about these new standards are crucial for safeguarding children, families, and other road users.
The donation will fund car seats for Banner Children's Injury Prevention program, which provides information on preventing injuries and deaths among children. This free program sends advocates to schools, churches, community groups, health fairs, and safety fairs in the East Valley community to offer practical safety advice.
"We are so grateful to Hyundai for this generous support of our Car Seat Safety program," said Rahul Chawla, MD, pediatric intensivist at Banner Children’s and board member of Banner Health Foundation. "Being able to provide injury prevention education, distribute car seats, and ensure families know how to properly install them is vitally important to our commitment at Banner Children’s to keeping kids well and wonderful."
