Hyundai Motor Group Leads With 12 Titles In The 2025 IIHS Safety Awards For Vehicle Safety Excellence
Hyundai Motor Group has achieved significant recognition in the 2025 Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) awards. The group, which includes Hyundai, Kia, and Genesis brands, secured 12 awards in total. This achievement represents 25% of all honours given this year. The awards highlight the group's commitment to safety and quality across its vehicle range.
Hyundai Motor Company received five TOP SAFETY PICK+ (TSP+) awards for its IONIQ 5, KONA, TUCSON, SANTA FE, and IONIQ 6 models. Genesis also earned five awards, including four TSP+ recognitions for the GV60, Electrified GV70, GV70, and GV80 models. Additionally, the Genesis G90 was awarded a TOP SAFETY PICK (TSP).
Kia's EV9 and Telluride SUVs were both honoured with TSP+ awards. These accolades underscore the high safety standards that are integral to Hyundai Motor Group's mission of delivering uncompromising safety and quality to customers.
The IIHS updated its award criteria for 2025 to focus more on rear-seat safety. New tests now require advanced seat belt technology and other innovations to achieve high scores. These changes have raised the bar significantly compared to previous years.
In 2025, only 48 models qualified for IIHS awards compared to 71 last year. The testing includes assessments of small and moderate front overlap crashes, side impacts, crash prevention measures, pedestrian safety, and new rear passenger safety standards.
