Hyundai Motor Celebrates 10 Years Of IONIQ Forest And Launches Tree Correspondents Campaign

Hyundai Motor Company has reached significant milestones with its IONIQ Forest initiative, celebrating a decade of ecological efforts and the planting of 1 million trees worldwide. The project, which began in 2016 alongside the launch of the Hyundai IONIQ Electric, aims to create a sustainable future by expanding global reforestation efforts. Recently, Hyundai introduced the Tree Correspondents campaign, using AI to highlight the importance of forest conservation.

The Tree Correspondents campaign employs artificial intelligence to transform ecological data into narratives from a tree's perspective. This innovative approach uses a bespoke large language model (LLM) to convert data into engaging stories, emphasizing the urgency of climate action and forest preservation. The campaign was launched on March 21, aligning with the International Day of Forests, and has since gained international acclaim.

The Tree Correspondents initiative stands out by integrating technology with storytelling to engage audiences deeply. Trackers were installed on trees in Brazil, Czech Republic, and Korea to gather real-time ecological data. This information is combined with external datasets from organizations like The Weather Company. The LLM processes this data into human language, creating narratives that focus on climate change impacts and ecosystem deterioration.

Sungwon Jee, Senior Vice President and Global Chief Marketing Officer at Hyundai Motor Company, stated: "Hyundai’s pursuit of innovation goes beyond mobility into how we connect with the world around us." He emphasized that Tree Correspondents reflects Hyundai's commitment to corporate social responsibility under their brand vision ‘Progress for Humanity’ by merging technology with storytelling.

The campaign has been recognized globally, winning two Gold Lions and one Silver Lion at the 2025 Cannes Lions International Festival of Creativity in the Digital Craft category. These accolades underscore Hyundai's dedication to biodiversity conservation and climate action through innovative means.

IONIQ Forest operates in 13 countries including the U.S., Mexico, Canada, Brazil, Vietnam, India, Korea, Germany, Saudi Arabia, Czech Republic, Türkiye, Philippines, and China. Beyond reforestation efforts, it contributes to combating climate change and preserving biodiversity across these regions.

Commitment to a Sustainable Future

Under the theme ‘Starting with the First Million,’ Hyundai reaffirms its dedication to continuing ecological initiatives beyond reaching this milestone. The company remains committed to introducing zero-emission vehicles powered by hydrogen fuel cell and EV technologies as part of its broader sustainability goals.

The official film showcasing behind-the-scenes insights into the Tree Correspondents campaign is available on Hyundai Worldwide YouTube channel. Additionally, for a limited time, Hyundai Worldwide Threads account features first-person posts from tree correspondents themselves.

Established in 1967, Hyundai Motor Company operates in over 200 countries with more than 120,000 employees focused on addressing real-world mobility challenges. As part of its transformation into a Smart Mobility Solution Provider under ‘Progress for Humanity,’ Hyundai invests in advanced technologies like robotics and Advanced Air Mobility (AAM).
