Hyundai Motor America Achieves Record-Breaking Sales In January 2025 With Strong Demand For Electrified Vehicles
Hyundai Motor America achieved record-breaking sales in January 2025, with a total of 54,503 units sold. This marks a 15% increase compared to January 2024, making it the best January in Hyundai's history. The company saw significant growth in hybrid and electric vehicle sales, with hybrid electric vehicle sales jumping by 74% and electric vehicle sales increasing by 15%.
The IONIQ 5 and IONIQ 6 models contributed significantly to this success. The IONIQ 5 saw a remarkable 54% increase in sales, while the IONIQ 6 experienced a 15% rise. Additionally, the Tucson HEV and Santa Fe HEV set all-time records with increases of 89% and 160%, respectively. These results highlight the growing demand for Hyundai's electrified vehicles.

Randy Parker, CEO of Hyundai Motor North America, stated, "Hyundai is kicking off the year with record-breaking sales, achieving our best January ever across multiple models and fuel types." He emphasised the strong performance of both electrified and internal combustion engine products.
Hyundai received numerous accolades recently. Four models were recognised by U.S. News & World Report in their Best Cars for the Money awards. The Tucson retained its title as Best Compact SUV for the Money, while the Elantra Hybrid won Best Hybrid Car for the Money for the fourth time. The Kona Electric and Tucson Plug-in Hybrid also earned top honours.
Moreover, Hyundai secured nine Editors’ Choice Awards from Car and Driver, showcasing excellence across its lineup. The Santa Cruz XRT was named Pickup of the Year at the Latin Flavor Cars of the Year awards. Additionally, Motor Authority awarded the IONIQ 5 N as Best Car to Buy in 2025.
Corporate Initiatives and Community Support
In response to Southern California wildfires, Hyundai and Genesis launched a relief program providing humanitarian aid and financial assistance to affected individuals. This initiative supports current owners, potential customers, and community efforts during challenging times.
Hyundai also introduced a new national marketing campaign titled "The Road" during professional football’s conference championship games on January 26th. This advertisement highlights everyday driving hazards and showcases Hyundai’s safety features that help ensure driver safety.
Sales Performance Across Models
The Elantra model saw a substantial increase in sales with an impressive rise of 28%. Meanwhile, other models like Sonata and Tucson also experienced significant growth with increases of 52% and 35%, respectively. However, some models such as Kona faced declines in sales by 34%, while Palisade decreased by 12%.

The company announced Claudia Márquez as Chief Operating Officer of Hyundai Motor America. Márquez will lead U.S. business operations focusing on customer-centric growth strategies.
Additionally, Hyundai is set to field seven Elantra N TCR entries in the upcoming IMSA Michelin Pilot Challenge season aiming for another Manufacturers’ Championship title.
