Hyundai Motor America Supports AAPI Heritage Month With Donation To Los Angeles Public Library
Hyundai Motor America is marking Asian American and Pacific Islander (AAPI) Heritage Month by donating $10,000 to the Los Angeles Public Library (LAPL) and the Library Foundation of Los Angeles (LFLA). This contribution aims to enhance cultural education and community engagement within the Asian American community. The donation will help expand the library's collection of books on Asian cultures and languages and support cultural programming at LAPL.
Erik Thomas, director of experiential and multicultural marketing at Hyundai Motor America, stated, "As a brand rooted in innovation and community, Hyundai is proud to partner with the Los Angeles Public Library to celebrate AAPI Heritage Month." He emphasised that supporting cultural programming not only honours AAPI traditions but also strengthens Hyundai's connection with customers in Los Angeles. This partnership aims to reach new audiences and foster brand loyalty.

The donation aligns with Hyundai's ongoing commitment to promoting inclusion and cultural awareness. Brandon Ramirez, director of corporate social responsibility at Hyundai Motor North America, highlighted this by saying, "Supporting education has always been a core value for Hyundai. It’s not only about helping young people prepare for the future but also ensuring everyone has access to cultural and historical resources that strengthen community ties."
Throughout May, Hyundai will support various AAPI-related events at the International Language Center within the Los Angeles Central Library. These events include Media Day on May 7, featuring speeches from Hyundai's CSR Director and representatives from LAPL and LFLA. Additionally, there will be interviews with prominent AAPI media outlets.
The AAPI Joy Event on May 17 will feature talks by Asian authors at the Central Library. Attendees can enjoy complimentary books sponsored by Hyundai and tote bags produced by the library. The event will also include a traditional Korean percussion performance by UC Irvine’s Hansori group and a Taiwanese pastry cooking demonstration.
Promoting Cultural Diversity
Hyundai's sponsorship efforts will be shared through LAPL’s social media channels and newsletters. These messages aim to highlight Hyundai’s sustained support for the AAPI community while amplifying its positive impact on local communities. The promotion underscores Hyundai's dedication to cultural diversity and inclusion.
The Los Angeles Public Library plays a crucial role as a public institution offering access to knowledge across its branches citywide. The historic Central Library serves as a hub for culture and education, hosting AAPI-focused programming during May. Events like "AAPI Joy" showcase the library’s commitment to diversity, inclusion, and cultural exchange.
Hyundai's Economic Impact

With significant operations in the U.S., including headquarters in California and manufacturing plants in Alabama, Hyundai contributes $20.1 billion annually to the U.S. economy according to an economic impact report.
"We are so appreciative of Hyundai's support for Asian American Pacific Islander Heritage Month programming at Los Angeles Public Library," said City Librarian John F. Szabo. "The Library is committed to honoring the cultural contributions of our city's Asian communities, and Hyundai's donation will aid us in promoting diverse, inclusive events for Los Angeles."
This initiative reflects Hyundai’s dedication to building stronger communities through education while celebrating rich traditions within the AAPI community.
