Hyundai And Lurie Children's Partner To Promote Child Passenger Safety At Seat Check Event In Chicago

Hyundai Motor America recently collaborated with Ann & Robert H. Lurie Children’s Hospital of Chicago to host a child safety seat check at McGrath City Hyundai dealership. This event is part of their ongoing partnership aimed at enhancing child passenger safety. Hyundai donated $50,000 to support the hospital's Buckle Up Child Passenger Safety Program, which educates families on keeping children safe while travelling.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) highlights that nearly half of car seats and booster seats are either incorrectly installed or improperly used. This misuse can lead to injuries. Properly used car seats can reduce fatal injury risks by 71% for infants under one year and by 54% for children aged 1-4 years.

The initiative supports nonprofit organisations dedicated to health and safety. Through this program, Hyundai has contributed significantly to Lurie Children’s efforts in promoting child passenger safety.

Since the partnership began in 2022, Hyundai has donated $200,000 to Lurie Children’s Hospital for its Buckle Up Child Passenger Safety Program. This program offers community and virtual classes on passenger safety, pedestrian safety education, and bicycle helmet use. Last year, over 1,000 new car seats were distributed to families in need.

Ann & Robert H. Lurie Children’s Hospital of Chicago is a nonprofit institution focused on providing exceptional care for children. It stands as Illinois' only independent research-driven children's hospital and ranks among the top nationally. The hospital is affiliated with Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine for pediatric training.

Amy Hill from Lurie Children’s emphasised the importance of proper car seat installation: "A quick car seat check can mean the difference between life and death in a crash." She expressed gratitude towards Hyundai for facilitating these community safety checks.

Child Safety Seat Checks

During the event at McGrath City Hyundai dealership in Chicago, certified Child Passenger Safety Technicians inspected car seats for correct installation, expiration dates, and manufacturer recalls. They also educated parents on proper usage and provided free replacement seats when necessary.

Cole Stutz, chief safety officer at Hyundai Motor North America, stated: "Hyundai is committed to the safety of our customers, which also includes promoting safety within the community." He praised Lurie Children’s impact on families through education and resource sharing.

Hyundai Motor America offers a diverse range of vehicles in the U.S., supporting its Progress for Humanity vision.
