Hyundai Motor And Kia Introduce IGIS: A Comprehensive System For Carbon Emissions Management
Hyundai Motor Company and Kia Corporation have introduced the Integrated Greenhouse Gas Information System (IGIS). This platform is designed to monitor, quantify, and manage carbon emissions throughout a vehicle's lifecycle. By employing the Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) methodology, IGIS ensures accurate tracking of emissions, providing a systematic approach to data collection.
IGIS plays a crucial role in managing carbon emissions by monitoring energy consumption at global production sites. It maintains detailed records of carbon management activities. The system also gathers LCA data from suppliers and components to calculate carbon footprints and predict greenhouse gas emissions across the supply chain.

Blockchain technology is integrated into IGIS to enhance data security and integrity. This technology makes it challenging to alter or falsify information, ensuring transparency and reliability in carbon emissions management. The robust system provides confidence in the accuracy of collected data.
Eunsook Jin, Executive Vice President and Head of ICT Division at Hyundai Motor and Kia, stated, "In our mission to achieve carbon neutrality by 2045, we are taking a significant leap forward with the development of IGIS." This initiative underscores their dedication to building a responsible value chain through innovation in the automotive sector.
The introduction of IGIS marks a significant step towards Hyundai Motor and Kia's goal of carbon neutrality. It follows the Supplier CO2 Emission Monitoring System (SCEMS) launched in 2023. IGIS is expected to streamline data management by integrating existing systems within both companies.
Proactive Compliance with Environmental Regulations
IGIS enhances Hyundai Motor and Kia's ability to respond swiftly to international environmental regulations. It aids in meeting external certifications like CDP and RE100, reinforcing their commitment to global sustainability initiatives. This proactive compliance solidifies their dedication to environmental responsibility.
This innovative platform highlights Hyundai Motor and Kia’s commitment to sustainability in the automotive industry. By embracing new technologies and adopting a comprehensive approach to carbon management, they are leading efforts towards a more sustainable future.
