Hyundai IONIQ 5 N TA Spec Achieves Fastest Electric Vehicle Record At Tsukuba Circuit
Hyundai Motor Company has achieved a milestone with its IONIQ 5 N TA Spec, setting a new record for electric vehicles (EVs) at the 'Attack Tsukuba 2025' event. The vehicle completed the lap in 57.446 seconds, marking the fastest time by an EV at this Japanese motorsport event.
Renowned driver Nobuteru Taniguchi piloted the IONIQ 5 N TA Spec to victory, surpassing the previous EV record at Tsukuba Circuit. "I'm honored to have had the opportunity to drive the Hyundai IONIQ 5 N TA Spec at Attack Tsukuba 2025, which enabled me to significantly break my previous EV record," said Taniguchi. "The IONIQ 5 N TA Spec stops well and handles excellently. Despite the power, the control is outstanding, with great cornering and smooth, stable corner-exit. I could push the car to the limit with real confidence."
The Tsukuba Circuit in Japan's Ibaraki Prefecture is known for its challenging layout, making it an ideal venue for testing vehicle capabilities. Hyundai's participation with the IONIQ 5 N TA Spec highlights its commitment to showcasing advanced EV technologies.
The IONIQ 5 N TA Spec is a motorsport version of Hyundai's award-winning model, featuring enhancements like a boosted output of 687 PS through software tuning. The rear motor's power was increased by 37 PS compared to the standard model. Additional upgrades include motorsport-grade brakes, new shock absorbers, and a high-downforce aerodynamic package.
This vehicle also boasts features such as N Active Sound+ with modified speakers exceeding 120 dB and specialized tires for improved performance. Despite using mostly production components in critical systems like motors and battery control electronics, it outpaced competitors by nearly two seconds.
