Hyundai IONIQ 5 N To Compete In The 2025 One Lap Of America With Grassroots Motorsports Support
Hyundai Motor America is collaborating with Grassroots Motorsports magazine for the 2025 Tire Rack One Lap of America. This event, known for its challenging nature, will take place from May 3 to May 10, 2025. During this period, 86 teams will compete in 17 events across nine racetracks, covering over 2,700 miles in eight days.
Hyundai has been named the official automaker for the 41st edition of this motorsport challenge. The event is a rigorous test for both drivers and their vehicles. It includes a variety of scored challenges such as timed events on road courses, drag strips, skid pads, and autocross courses.
In addition to competing, Hyundai is providing support vehicles for the event staff. These include three 2025 Palisades, two 2025 Santa Fe Hybrid SUVs, and a 2025 Santa Cruz Sport Adventure Vehicle. These vehicles are essential for safely navigating thousands of miles between events.
Andy Hollis and Tom Suddard will drive the No. 44 Hyundai IONIQ 5 N all-electric SUV in the Alternative Fuels class. Hollis is a seasoned racer with multiple One Lap class wins and Suddard is the publisher of Grassroots Motorsports magazine.
The IONIQ 5 N boasts impressive features such as excellent cornering and sophisticated battery conditioning. "I was smitten with the massive torque of an EV the first time I drove one," said Hollis. "Hyundai’s IONIQ 5 N checks all the boxes with excellent cornering, great brakes and sophisticated battery conditioning that allows all that torque to be used for an entire session."
Suddard added that electrification allows for significant power without compromising street car capabilities. "After winning our class in a gutted, caged race car last year, we wanted to compete in the best-of-all worlds this year: A vehicle that’s incredibly fast, incredibly comfortable on a road trip, and incredibly capable on a racetrack," he said.
Event Challenges and Logistics
The One Lap of America event was created by Brock Yates and is considered one of North America's toughest street-legal car challenges. Participants travel across various tracks including Virginia International Raceway and NCM Motorsports Park.
Brock Yates Jr., the event organizer, highlighted the importance of reliable support vehicles. "One Lap of America has a hard-earned reputation as the country’s most grueling street-legal motorsport competition for drivers and their cars," he stated.
