Hyundai IONIQ 5 N Wins Motor Authority's Best Car To Buy Award For 2025
The IONIQ 5 N from Hyundai has been awarded Motor Authority's Best Car to Buy for 2025. This all-electric SUV was chosen by Motor Authority's team, who tested various new or redesigned luxury and performance vehicles. The IONIQ 5 N stood out due to its impressive acceleration, handling, styling, features, and value. It was particularly noted for its strong appeal to driving enthusiasts.
Hyundai's IONIQ 5 N boasts up to 601 horsepower with an additional boost feature called N Grin Boost, which adds another 40 horsepower. This feature enhances the vehicle's performance for a brief period. The car also includes the N e-Shift function, simulating manual gear changes to provide a more engaging driving experience.
Olabisi Boyle, senior vice president of product planning and mobility strategy at Hyundai Motor North America, expressed pride in the recognition. "It’s a great honor for the IONIQ 5 N to be named Motor Authority’s ‘Best Car to Buy 2025,’" Boyle said. The vehicle is described as a high-performance model that redefines driving enjoyment in the electric era.
The IONIQ 5 N integrates advanced technology like the N e-Shift and N Active Sound+ functions. These features replicate the feel of a dual-clutch transmission and offer selectable soundtracks that mimic traditional engine sounds or futuristic tones. This combination aims to enhance driver engagement by simulating high-performance internal combustion engine (ICE) characteristics.
Marty Padgett, Editorial Director of The Car Connection, Motor Authority, and Green Car Reports, shared his excitement about the vehicle's capabilities on the racetrack. "Our team had big-time fun and posted some hot lap times in the IONIQ 5 N," he stated. He added that electric-car drivers can also excel on racetracks.
Soundtrack Options Enhance Driving
The N Active Sound+ system uses ten speakers to deliver three distinct powertrain soundtracks: 'Ignition,' 'Evolution,' and 'Supersonic.' These themes range from simulating an internal-combustion engine to sounds inspired by fighter jets. This technology not only adds excitement but also helps drivers gauge power usage during cornering.
The development of these features involved extensive testing at Germany’s Nürburgring racetrack. The aim was to create an immersive driving experience that closely resembles that of high-performance ICE vehicles.
