Hyundai Reports Strong Car Sales: Maintains Second Place In March 2025
Hyundai, a major global car manufacturer from South Korea, ranks second in car sales in India, following Maruti Suzuki. The company has seen a steady increase in sales each month. Recent data reveals Hyundai's sales figures for March, highlighting its performance in the Indian market.
In March, Hyundai sold 51,820 cars in India, narrowly surpassing Tata Motors by 204 units. This slight edge helped Hyundai reclaim its second position in the market after Mahindra had unexpectedly taken it in February. Despite this achievement, Hyundai's sales in March 2025 were 1,181 units lower than the 53,001 cars sold in March 2024, marking a 2.2% decline.

The Creta remains Hyundai's top-selling model and the best-selling car in India for March. Sales of the Creta reached 18,005 units, a 10% increase from the 16,458 units sold in March 2024. The Venue follows as Hyundai's second-best seller with 10,441 units sold, showing a 9% rise from the previous year's figures.
Hyundai's Exter ranked third among its models but saw a significant drop in sales. In March, only 5,901 Exter cars were sold compared to 8,475 units in March 2024, indicating a 30% decrease. The Aura sedan secured fourth place with sales of 5,007 units, up by 4% from last year.
The Grand i10 and i20 Elite followed closely behind. The Grand i10 sold 4,990 units last month, slightly below its performance from March last year when it exceeded 5,000 units. The i20 Elite saw a decline with only 4,452 units sold compared to 5,155 units in March 2024.
The Alcazar and Verna also featured on Hyundai's list of top sellers. The Alcazar sold 1,431 units in March, just slightly more than the previous year. Meanwhile, Verna sales dropped to 1,364 units from the previous year's figure of 1,716.
Hyundai's Market Share and Other Models
Hyundai accounted for 13.4% of all cars sold in India during March. This was a decrease of 0.9% compared to the same month last year. Additionally, Hyundai sold smaller numbers of other models: Tucson with 89 units and Ioniq 5 electric cars with just 19 units.
The Kona electric car did not record any sales this March despite being available last year. A notable factor contributing to Creta's increased sales is the introduction of the Creta Electric model.
