Hyundai Unveils HTWO Energy Savannah: A Dual-Energy Hydrogen And Electric Station For Heavy-Duty Vehicles
Hyundai has announced the launch of a hydrogen production and refueling facility for Class-8 zero-emission vehicles. This facility, named HTWO Energy Savannah, will be located near the Port of Savannah, Georgia. The project aims to support Hyundai's new Metaplant America by using XCIENT hydrogen fuel cell trucks in its Clean Logistics initiative.
The HTWO Energy Savannah project is a collaboration between HTWO Logistics, HydroFleet, and Capital Development Partners. It is set to begin operations in late Fall 2025. The facility will initially produce 1,200 kilograms of hydrogen daily, with plans to expand capacity to 4,200 kilograms per day as demand increases.
Jim Park, SVP of commercial vehicle and hydrogen fuel cell business at Hyundai Motor North America, stated, "HTWO Energy Savannah is a breakthrough hydrogen production and refueling station for the heavy-duty trucking industry, allowing zero-emissions trucks to quickly and easily refuel at a single convenient location in the Savannah region."
Scott Moe, CEO of HydroFleet, expressed enthusiasm for the initiative. "HTWO Energy Savannah is a groundbreaking initiative that will revolutionize the heavy-duty trucking and hydrogen industry. By providing a scalable hydrogen production and refueling solution, HydroFleet and HTWO Logistics are addressing the critical need for sustainable logistics infrastructure," he said.
The project also aims to position Pooler as a leader in the hydrogen economy. Des Carlisle from the Southeast Hydrogen Energy Alliance remarked on its significance: "HTWO Energy Savannah represents the type of forward-thinking infrastructure the Southeast is ready for — a site that not only meets the demands of today’s heavy-duty fleets but also paves the way for a scalable hydrogen economy in our region."
Hyundai's Broader Impact
Hyundai Motor America plays a significant role in the U.S. economy through its extensive operations. These include its headquarters in California and manufacturing plants like Hyundai Motor Manufacturing Alabama. The company's activities contribute $20.1 billion annually and provide 190,000 jobs across the nation.
The development of HTWO Energy Savannah marks an important step toward reducing emissions in port operations and logistics corridors. This initiative aligns with Hyundai's vision for clean logistics and positions them as leaders in sustainable transportation solutions.
