Hyundai Hope On Wheels Contributes $250,000 To BC Children's Hospital Foundation For Childhood Cancer Care
Hyundai Canada has made a significant contribution to BC Children's Hospital Foundation, donating $250,000 through its charitable arm, Hyundai Hope on Wheels. This donation is part of a larger $4 million commitment in 2025 to support paediatric oncology centres across Canada. The funds will aid children and youth receiving cancer care in British Columbia, reinforcing Hyundai's mission to combat childhood cancer.
BC Children's Hospital stands out as the only full-service acute-care hospital for children in the province. It offers specialised care to young patients from British Columbia and the Yukon. Each year, around 130 children in B.C. are diagnosed with cancer, and the hospital's oncology team provides comprehensive treatment with compassion and expertise.
Hyundai Hope on Wheels is a non-profit organisation dedicated to funding research and care programmes for children with cancer. Established in Canada in 2025, it supports research through grants and care through impact donations. Originally launched in the U.S. in 1998, it has become one of the largest non-profit funders of paediatric cancer research there.
The donation was marked by Hyundai's Handprint Ceremony at BC Children's Hospital. This tradition involves children affected by cancer placing their painted handprints on a white Hyundai vehicle. The ceremony symbolises courage and unity in the fight against childhood cancer.
BC Children's Hospital is home to leading paediatric oncology researchers who are advancing clinical trials and lab-based discoveries. Their focus includes understanding childhood cancers better and developing more effective treatments tailored for children. Ongoing studies cover various cancer types like leukaemia, brain tumours, and solid tumours.
Connor Bedard, Hyundai Canada's NHL ambassador from North Vancouver, participated in the handprint ceremony. He expressed gratitude for the hospital's efforts and brought joy to participants during the event.
A Meaningful Investment
"At BC Children’s Hospital Foundation, we’re committed to improving outcomes for every child—and every family—facing a cancer diagnosis," said Malcolm Berry, president and CEO of BC Children's Hospital Foundation. "This generous gift from Hyundai Hope on Wheels is more than a donation; it’s a meaningful investment in the care, treatment, and hope that families can count on when they walk through the hospital’s doors."
Kirk Merrett of Hyundai Canada highlighted the importance of this initiative: "This is our first year of Hyundai Hope on Wheels in Canada, and today’s Handprint Ceremony at BC Children’s Hospital is a moving reminder of why this program matters." He emphasised their pride in supporting both the hospital and families it serves.
