Hyundai has recently introduced a new, more budget-friendly CNG variant to its Exter Hy-CNG Duo lineup, solidifying its position as a key player in India's automotive market. In April 2024, Hyundai unveiled the Exter EX Hy-CNG Duo, aiming to make its innovative dual-cylinder CNG technology more accessible. Priced at Rs 7.51 lakh (Ex-showroom), this variant presents a nearly Rs 1 lakh price advantage over its predecessor, introduced at Rs 8.5 lakh (Ex-showroom). Initially available in mid and higher trims, Hyundai’s strategy to include the entry-level EX trim in the CNG lineup marks a significant step towards affordability.
Hyundai Exter's Safety and Comfort Features
The Hyundai Exter EX Hy-CNG Duo is not just about fuel efficiency and affordability. It comes loaded with a suite of features designed to enhance both safety and comfort. Among these are six airbags as standard equipment, ensuring the safety of all passengers. Additionally, the vehicle is equipped with 3-point seatbelts and reminders, a 4.2-inch TFT MID screen for the instrument cluster, H-shaped LED tail lights, a driver's seat that allows for height adjustments, and keyless entry, making it a compelling option for consumers looking for a well-rounded vehicle.
Under its hood, the Exter Hy-CNG Duo boasts a 1.2L 4-cylinder naturally aspirated Bi-fuel capable petrol engine. This powertrain generates 68 bhp of peak power and 95.2 Nm of peak torque when running on CNG, paired exclusively with a 5-speed manual transmission. Hyundai claims an impressive fuel efficiency of up to 27.1 km/kg, making the Exter Hy-CNG Duo an economical choice for consumers. This combination of performance and efficiency further strengthens Hyundai's commitment to offering smart mobility solutions.
Previously, the Hyundai Exter Hy-CNG Duo was available only in higher trims such as the S, SX, and SX Knight. The introduction of the EX trim with dual-cylinder CNG technology positions Hyundai as a strong competitor against Tata Motors' Punch i-CNG, the pioneer of dual-cylinder tech in the sub B-Segment SUV category. This expansion of the Exter Hy-CNG Duo lineup signifies Hyundai's intent to dominate this segment.
