Hyundai Unveils Crater Off-Road Concept SUV At 2025 LA Auto Show
Hyundai Motors showcased its Crater Off-Road concept SUV at the ongoing 2025 LA Auto Show. This Compact off-road SUV concept car is the next evolution of its XRT series, which is completely focused on off-road.
Hyundai Crater Off-Road Concept
Coming to Crater's design, Hyundai calls it the 'Art of Steel' design, inspired by extreme environments. This design was developed at the Hyundai America Technical Centre in California. Many of its style elements were already seen in XRT production models.

The car looks Bold, rugged and muscular, built on a monocoque architecture, with a heavy bonnet giving it an upright stance. It features a large 18-inch wheel fitted with 33-inch off-road tyres that can handle extreme conditions and trails. It gets parametric pixel LED lights with an additional auxiliary light mounted on its roof. It also features Hyundai's four-dot logo, commonly found in its electric vehicles.
Interior Tech
As always, Hyundai consistently impresses with its interiors. The crater concept features advanced tech equipment, including a Dynamic Head-Up Display, Ambient Lighting, and a flat-bottom steering wheel. It has vibrant orange accents and a center pixel display with multiple driving modes: Snow, Sand, Mud, Auto and XRT.

The cabin is entirely made of soft and durable materials, including a high-quality brown crashpad. Hyundai also provides customers with customization options through the BYOD (Bring Your Own Device) feature. Seats are 3D wraparounds instead of traditional bucket seats, aiming to provide stability and comfort during off-roading journeys.
Off-road features
For off-roading, the vehicle is equipped with features like Downhill Brake Control, Trailer Brake Control, a Compass, Altimeter, multi-function off-road controller, Front and rear locking differentials, traction and braking management, and Terrain modes such as Snow, Sand and Mud.
Hyundai didn't reveal its powertrain, but we believe it will have both ICE and electric variants. The brand also plans to introduce a full-off-road capable SUV to the Indian market soon. The upcoming car is expected to feature many of Crater's design elements.
