Hyundai And Children's Hospital Los Angeles Strengthen Commitment To Child Passenger And Pedestrian Safety
Hyundai Motor America has reaffirmed its commitment to child safety by donating $100,000 to Children’s Hospital Los Angeles (CHLA). This funding will enhance the hospital's Injury Prevention and Child Passenger Safety Program, which educates families on safe transportation practices. The initiative aims to expand the reach of child passenger and pedestrian safety events across Los Angeles and Orange Counties.
Hyundai and CHLA have collaborated on over 10 safety events, impacting nearly 850 children in these regions. These efforts have also led to the replacement of more than 125 car seats. A study highlighted that caregivers who attended these events are more likely to use car seats correctly, emphasizing the importance of continuous education.
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) highlights a concerning statistic: almost half of all car seats and booster seats are either installed incorrectly or misused. NHTSA also notes that proper use of safety seats can reduce fatal injury risk by 71% for infants and 54% for toddlers. This underscores the significance of Hyundai and CHLA's ongoing safety initiatives.
Throughout this year, Hyundai and CHLA will organise child safety seat inspections in Los Angeles and Orange Counties. Certified technicians will offer free inspections, checking for recalls, expiration dates, and ensuring correct seat fitment. If needed, families will receive replacement seats at no cost.
The partnership extends beyond car seat checks to include LA Street Smarts events aimed at promoting pedestrian safety. These events feature a mobile, life-size set with traffic signals and interactive elements to teach children about street hazards. Recently showcased at the Lifesavers Conference on Roadway Safety in Long Beach, California, this initiative brought together various traffic safety leaders.
"We are very grateful for Hyundai’s continued support of our child safety and injury prevention programs," says Helen Arbogast, Dr.P.H., MPH, manager of the Injury Prevention Program at CHLA. "Hyundai’s generosity allows us to reach more children and families with critical, lifesaving child passenger and pedestrian safety information."
