Hyundai Canada Launches Hyundai Hope On Wheels With $1 Million Donation To SickKids Foundation

Hyundai Canada has announced a significant $1 million donation to the SickKids Foundation. This contribution marks the launch of Hyundai Hope On Wheels in Canada, a non-profit focused on supporting paediatric cancer patients through research funding and awareness initiatives. The donation is part of a larger commitment of over $4 million in 2025 to aid paediatric oncology centres across the nation.

The Hospital for Sick Children, known as SickKids, is among the top children's hospitals globally. Its outpatient cancer clinic handles more than 20,000 visits annually. Hyundai Canada's donation will support critical research and provide essential care for patients and survivorship programs. Jennifer Bernard, President and CEO of SickKids Foundation, expressed gratitude for Hyundai's dedication to paediatric cancer patients and their families.

Hyundai Hope On Wheels was initially launched in the U.S. in 1998 and has become one of the largest non-profit funders of paediatric cancer research there. Now established in Canada, it aims to continue this mission with support from Hyundai Auto Canada and its 226 dealers nationwide. Each year, grants will be distributed to institutions focused on improving outcomes for children diagnosed with cancer.

SickKids Foundation has raised over $3 billion since 1972, making it Canada's largest charitable funder of child health care, research, and learning. This philanthropy has propelled advancements in paediatric health, contributing to SickKids' ranking as one of the top two specialized paediatric hospitals worldwide for four consecutive years.

During a press conference on February 10, Dr. Jim Whitlock accepted a cheque for $1 million on behalf of SickKids Foundation. The event featured representatives from Hyundai Canada and SickKids Foundation alongside patient ambassadors who participated in the Handprint Ceremony. This ceremony symbolises hope and unity against cancer by inviting children affected by cancer to place their handprints on a Hyundai vehicle.

Community Support and Future Initiatives

Steve Flamand from Hyundai Canada stated that supporting childhood cancer research is crucial for making a difference. "Children are the future," he said, emphasising the importance of addressing funding gaps in this area. Hyundai Canada is committed to supporting communities where its employees live and work by creating brighter futures for Canadian youth.

Hyundai Hope On Wheels will continue its mission by providing grants to support research and care initiatives across Canada. The organisation aims to improve treatments and outcomes for children diagnosed with cancer through these efforts.

SickKids sees at least one new paediatric cancer patient daily, highlighting the ongoing need for research funding and patient care support. The collaboration between Hyundai Canada and SickKids Foundation represents a pivotal moment for paediatric cancer research funding across the country.

This partnership underscores both organisations' commitment to finding a cure for childhood cancer while enhancing patient care through long-term investments in research.
