Hyundai Canada Contributes $1 Million To CHU Sainte-Justine For Paediatric Cancer Initiatives

Hyundai Canada, along with its 226 dealers, has announced a significant $1 million donation to the CHU Sainte-Justine Foundation. This contribution marks one of the initial donations by Hyundai Hope On Wheels in Canada, a newly established non-profit aimed at supporting paediatric cancer patients through research funding and awareness initiatives. The donation is part of a larger commitment exceeding $4 million in 2025 to support paediatric oncology centres across Canada.

The CHU Sainte-Justine Foundation is renowned for its excellence in paediatric oncology care and research. It houses Quebec's national centre of excellence for paediatric bone marrow and cord blood transplants. The donation from Hyundai Hope On Wheels will fund crucial research and provide essential support for patient care and survivorship programs. The foundation aims to inspire donors to transform paediatric medicine and improve children's lives.

Steve Flamand, president and CEO of Hyundai Auto Canada, expressed pride in supporting the CHU Sainte-Justine Foundation as they introduce Hyundai Hope On Wheels in Canada. He stated, "At Hyundai, driving progress for humanity is at the heart of everything we do, and few causes are more impactful than the fight against childhood cancer." Flamand emphasized the importance of bridging critical funding gaps to bring hope to families affected by cancer.

The launch event on March 12 featured representatives from Hyundai Canada, CHU Sainte-Justine Foundation, and patient ambassadors participating in Hyundai Hope On Wheels’ signature Handprint Ceremony. This tradition involves children and families affected by cancer leaving painted handprints on a Hyundai vehicle, symbolizing hope in the fight against childhood cancer.

CHU Sainte-Justine is recognized as one of North America's leading centres for paediatric oncology. It ranks among the top five most active centres for cord blood transplants on the continent. Delphine Brodeur, president and CEO of CHU Sainte-Justine Foundation, expressed gratitude towards Hyundai Canada's generous support. She highlighted that long-term investment in paediatric research is crucial for advancing patient care.

"We are incredibly thankful to Hyundai Canada for its generous support and commitment to paediatric cancer patients and their families," said Brodeur. She noted that this partnership would drive significant breakthroughs at CHU Sainte-Justine's Centre de cancérologie Charles-Bruneau.

Hyundai Hope On Wheels: A Global Initiative

Hyundai Hope On Wheels was first launched in the U.S. in 1998 and has become one of the largest non-profit funders of paediatric cancer research there. In 2025, it expanded into Canada with primary funding from Hyundai Auto Canada and its dealers nationwide. The organization provides grants for research and impact donations for care and survivorship programs.

The initiative reflects Hyundai Canada's dedication to supporting communities where its employees live and work. Each year, grants will be distributed across Canadian institutions to advance treatments and improve outcomes for children facing cancer.

The collaboration between Hyundai Canada and CHU Sainte-Justine represents a significant step forward in supporting paediatric cancer research nationwide. By working together, they aim to create brighter futures for children battling cancer across Quebec.
