Chance Hymas Secures Seventh Overall Finish At Birmingham 250SX East Triple Crown Event
During the AMA Supercross round 10 in Birmingham, Alabama, Honda HRC Progressive and its satellite teams competed in the season's final Triple Crown event. Chance Hymas achieved 6-10-6 results in the 250SX East division. Despite some challenges, other Red Riders also delivered commendable performances throughout the night.
In the 250SX East races, Hymas started strong in race one, maintaining fifth place for most of it before a late mistake dropped him to sixth. He finished tenth in race two but improved to sixth in the final race, securing seventh overall. Meanwhile, Phoenix Racing Honda’s Cullin Park finished eighth overall, and Quad Lock Honda Racing’s Carson Mumford placed eleventh.
Storm Lake Honda Buddy Brooks Racing’s Henry Miller ended up twelfth overall, while SPR’s Lance Kobusch took fifteenth place. Neese Racing-backed privateer Luke Neese secured sixteenth. In the 450SX category, with Jett and Hunter Lawrence still recovering from surgeries, Honda's efforts were led by satellite teams.
Quad Lock Honda Racing’s Shane McElrath posted 8-12-9 finishes to secure eighth overall. Phoenix Racing Honda’s Dylan Ferrandis had a challenging night with 9-22-10 results, placing thirteenth overall. Despite their absence from racing, Jett and Hunter Lawrence attended the event to engage with fans and support their team.
The Birmingham round also featured an SMX Next race where Honda-supported Tiger Wood finished third. SLR riders Grayson Townsend and Leum Oehlhof took tenth and twelfth places respectively, while TiLube Honda’s Brock Walker finished thirteenth.
Qualifying Rounds and Special Guests
In combined 250SX East qualifying times, Hymas was eighth on his CRF250RWE. Other direct qualifiers included Carson Mumford (third), Cullin Park (ninth), Henry Miller (thirteenth), Trevor Colip (fourteenth), Nicholas Romano (sixteenth), and Lance Kobusch (seventeenth). Luke Neese secured his spot with a third-place finish in the LCQ.
For the 450SX class, Shane McElrath qualified ninth while Dylan Ferrandis was twelfth. The event attracted several guests including Ashton Yates from MotoAmerica road racing series and country music star Bailey Zimmerman who enjoyed time with the Lawrence brothers.
Community Engagement
Xtreme Powersports Opelika set up a booth at the event displaying a CRF450R and CRF110F models while engaging with fans. Local bike builder Spencer East showcased a Honda Z50 styled like 1980s factory motocrossers alongside an original Honda Motocompo.
A group of associates from Honda's Power Sports & Parts headquarters attended with family members enjoying hospitality at the event. They watched races from a suite after being treated to a catered meal in Honda HRC Progressive’s area.
Upcoming Events
The series will continue with round eleven in Seattle where Jo Shimoda will return to compete in the 250SX West division for Honda HRC Progressive. The team aims to build on their experiences from Birmingham as they prepare for upcoming challenges.
