2026 Honda Prelude Revives Iconic Name With Civic Type R's Advanced Suspension And Hybrid System
Honda has announced that the 2026 Prelude, a new grand touring sports coupe, will be available at dealerships later this year. This model will incorporate features from the Civic Type R, such as its suspension, wide front and rear tracks, and Brembo front brakes. Notably, this is the first time the dual-axis front suspension design from the 2017 Civic Type R will be used in a non-Type R vehicle.
The Prelude's suspension and brake systems will be uniquely tuned to provide a sporty yet comfortable driving experience. This marks a significant step for Honda as it introduces these advanced features to enhance the grand touring capabilities of the Prelude. The focus is on delivering both excitement and comfort for drivers.
The new Prelude will be Honda's first electrified version of this model. It will use Honda's two-motor hybrid-electric system, known for its smoothness and power. This system is also found in the Civic hybrid, which was named the 2025 North American Car of the Year. The Prelude aims to offer an engaging driving experience while maintaining everyday comfort.
A key highlight of the Prelude is its pairing with Honda's new S+ Shift system. This innovative drive mode enhances Linear Shift Control, contributing to a sporty yet comfortable grand touring experience. The sixth-generation Prelude promises high levels of driver engagement and dynamic driving characteristics.
Honda's lineup includes various clean, safe, and connected vehicles sold through over 1,000 independent U.S. dealers. Models like the Civic, Accord, HR-V, CR-V, Passport, Prologue, Pilot SUVs, Ridgeline pickup, and Odyssey minivan are part of their award-winning range.
Commitment to Electrification
In 2024, more than 25% of Honda's total sales were electrified vehicles. These include models like the all-electric Prologue SUV and fuel-cell-electric CR-V e:FCEV. Hybrid-electric versions of Accord, CR-V, and Civic are also available. The hybrid-electric Prelude will join this lineup by year's end.
Honda has been manufacturing cars in America for over four decades with eight major facilities operating there currently. In 2024 alone, over 99% of Honda vehicles sold in the U.S. were made in North America; about two-thirds were produced in America using both domestic and global parts.
The introduction of the 2026 Prelude signifies Honda's commitment to innovation while maintaining its reputation for quality vehicles that cater to diverse customer needs worldwide.
