Honda And MMG Achieve Consecutive Victories At Canadian Tire Motorsport Park 120 Race
The #93 MMG Honda Civic Type R TCR, driven by Karl Wittmer and LP Montour, celebrated a significant victory at the Canadian Tire Motorsport Park 120. This win marked their second consecutive triumph in the IMSA Michelin Pilot Challenge season. The team executed a flawless strategy amidst the race's chaos, enhancing their position in the TCR class championship.
After qualifying just 0.040 seconds shy of pole position, LP Montour started strong, advancing to the lead by lap five. However, he was overtaken four laps later. An unexpected left front tire issue forced an early pit stop, allowing Karl Wittmer to take over with a focus on fuel conservation.
During Wittmer's stint, a penalty for another car promoted MMG to first place. Despite this advantage, Wittmer faced the challenge of managing fuel efficiently to finish the race. A multi-car incident in Turn 7 led to a lengthy caution period, aiding Wittmer's fuel-saving efforts.
With only 20 minutes remaining after the caution ended, Wittmer maintained his lead and finished with a 2.149-second gap over the second-place car. This victory marked Wittmer's fifth career series win and Montour's second.
The Honda team now holds third place in the TCR championship standings, trailing by just 110 points. Their strong performances at Watkins Glen International and Canadian Tire Motorsport Park have been pivotal in their championship pursuit.
Meanwhile, William Tally and Tim Lewis of KMW Motorsports with TMR Engineering faced challenges after a spin on lap two. Despite rear-alignment issues, they managed to finish tenth in their Honda Civic Type R TCR.
