Honda HRC Progressive Celebrates Victories At Thunder Valley MX With Jett Lawrence And Chance Hymas
Honda HRC Progressive had a successful event at the AMA Pro Motocross Championship's third round in Colorado. Jett Lawrence and Chance Hymas excelled, winning their respective classes. Lawrence continued his dominance in the 450 class with another overall win, while Hymas achieved his first career 1-1 finish in the 250 category. Teammates Hunter Lawrence and Jo Shimoda also performed well, each securing fifth place overall in their classes.
Jett Lawrence maintained his perfect record this season by winning both motos in the 450 class. In the first race, he took the lead on lap one and held it despite pressure from his brother Hunter and others. Hunter initially led but finished fourth after a late tip-over allowed Eli Tomac to pass. In moto two, Jett moved up from sixth to first before halfway, securing another victory.
Chance Hymas dominated the 250 class by leading every lap of both motos on his CRF250RWE. He won the first race by over 45 seconds after Haiden Deegan faced issues. The second moto was similar, with Hymas winning by over 11 seconds. Jo Shimoda overcame early challenges to finish ninth in the first race and fourth in the second, securing fifth overall for the day.
The Thunder Valley event also featured round three of the Women's Motocross Championship. Due to weather conditions, activities were rescheduled from Friday to Saturday. Charli Cannon finished second for Quad Lock Honda Racing, while Mikayla Nielsen took fourth for SLR Honda. Other Red Riders placed within the top 20.
In qualifying sessions, Chance Hymas topped the 250 class with a significant lead, while Jo Shimoda secured ninth place. Jett and Hunter Lawrence posted strong times in the 450 class qualifying as well. Local dealership Peak Honda World participated with a pop-up activation at Thunder Valley, engaging fans and showcasing Honda's lineup.
The event schedule was adjusted due to NBC's live broadcast requirements, resulting in 450 motos running before 250 motos. Jett Lawrence's victory marked his 18th career win in just 19 starts, tying him for eighth on the all-time list with Kent Howerton. This win also extended Honda's record as the most successful manufacturer at Thunder Valley.
Upcoming Challenges and Rider Reflections
The next round of AMA Pro Motocross will take place at High Point Raceway in Pennsylvania on June 14. Jett holds a commanding lead in the 450 standings with a full moto win's worth of points ahead of second place. Hunter is fifth in his division, while Shimoda and Hymas are second and third respectively in the 250 standings.
"It was a good day," said Jett Lawrence about his performance at Thunder Valley. "The track was difficult—it definitely challenged you with the ruts." Chance Hymas expressed satisfaction with his results: "It was a perfect day for me here at Lakewood—a beautiful way to bounce back after last weekend."
Team Manager's Perspective
Lars Lindstrom, Team Manager, praised his riders' performances: "It was an absolutely awesome weekend for the team! I told Chance after the race that we may need to come up with some new nicknames for him—what an absolute clinic he put on out there!" He acknowledged Jett's achievements as well: "With Jett winning so much...he makes it look pretty easy."
The team's hard work is evident as they continue to perform strongly across both classes this season.
