Honda HRC Progressive Confronts Adversity At Glendale Triple Crown SX Event

Honda HRC Progressive faced a challenging night at the first Triple Crown event of the 2025 season in Glendale, Arizona. Jett Lawrence showed strong form with two second-place finishes before an early exit from the final race left him eighth overall. Hunter Lawrence was consistent with 5-9-4 results, securing fifth place overall. Jo Shimoda battled through adversity to achieve a top-10 finish in the 250SX West class.

Jett Lawrence demonstrated impressive speed in the initial two 450SX races, starting well and securing second-place finishes. However, in the final race, he jammed his knee in the second turn and had to leave the track due to pain. A visit to the Alpinestars Medical Unit revealed no significant injuries, but further evaluation is planned.

Despite his setback, Jett topped the charts in 450SX qualifying with a time more than half a second faster than the next-best rider. He expressed optimism about his performance, stating, "It was looking to be a pretty decent day today. I had two really good, consistent mains."

Hunter Lawrence delivered a steady performance throughout the event. He traded positions multiple times and secured a top-five overall result with finishes of fifth, ninth, and fourth. Reflecting on his performance, Hunter said, "I was happy with my fifth tonight. I gave it my all–it definitely wasn’t from a lack of trying."

Phoenix Racing Honda’s Dylan Ferrandis finished 11th overall in 450SX, while Quad Lock Honda Racing’s Shane McElrath and Joey Savatgy placed 14th and 15th respectively.

Jo Shimoda's Resilience Amidst Challenges

Jo Shimoda faced difficulties at Glendale due to lingering injuries from broken fingers. Despite being taken down in the opening 250SX West race and finishing 21st, he rebounded with sixth- and fifth-place results in subsequent races to earn tenth overall. Jo noted improvements despite challenges: "Today I had good starts, so that’s an improvement."

Shimoda did not ride during the week leading up to Glendale but maintained his training program and PEMF therapy sessions for inflammation management.

Additional Highlights from Glendale

The Glendale event marked the first Triple Crown of the season. Western Honda Powersports set up a pop-up booth at Honda HRC Progressive pits displaying CRF110Fs for fans. NFL free agent Kalen Ballage visited Jett and Hunter Lawrence during this round.

The SMX Next category saw several Red Riders achieving respectable results: Leum Oehlhof finished fourth while Brock Walker and Grayson Townsend secured tenth and seventeenth places respectively.

Upcoming Events and Team Updates

The next stop for Honda HRC Progressive is Tampa, Florida for round five of AMA Supercross which marks start of 250SX East Region competition. Chance Hymas will decide later whether he will participate as he continues recovering from knee surgery last September.

Lars Lindstrom commented on team challenges: "Sometimes this sport reminds you how difficult it can be... Once we get some information from Jett’s MRI on Monday then we can make a plan on how to move forward."
