Honda Civic Type R Ultimate Edition Celebrates Legacy As European Sales Conclude
Honda has introduced the 'Ultimate Edition' of its Civic Type R, marking the end of its sales in Europe. This special edition is limited to 40 units and features the signature Championship White colour with red decals, carbon detailing, and additional lighting. Each car comes with a unique gift box containing a numbered emblem, a carbon key ring, custom floor mats, and a car cover.
The Civic Type R has been a symbol of high-performance driving since its debut in Japan in 1997. Over the years, it has evolved through five generations and numerous special editions, gaining a loyal fan base worldwide. The model is renowned for its racing-inspired performance and has set benchmarks at various circuits globally.
The Civic Type R's racing credentials are well-established. It has achieved front-wheel-drive production records at famous tracks like Germany's Nürburgring Nordschleife. Other notable circuits include Magny Cours in France, Spa-Francorchamps in Belgium, Hungaroring in Hungary, Estoril in Portugal, Suzuka in Japan, Silverstone in the UK, and Mount Panorama Bathurst in Australia.
In motorsport, the Civic Type R has excelled in series like the World Touring Car Championship (WTCC) and World Touring Car Cup (WTCR). These competitions feature vehicles based on mass-produced models with front-wheel drive, perfectly aligning with the Type R's capabilities.
Inside the 'Ultimate Edition,' carbon elements extend to the centre console panel. Enhanced lighting highlights interior features such as door linings and cup holders. A Type R logo projector adds to its distinctiveness when opening the front doors. This edition celebrates nearly three decades of hot hatch performance.
Hannah Swift from Honda Motor Europe stated: "As we say farewell to a true icon of the Honda automobile line-up in Europe, we thought it was fitting to give the Civic Type R the ultimate send-off with this special edition model offering our customers a unique opportunity to celebrate its legacy."
Availability and Future Plans
In the UK, 10 units of this exclusive model will be available on a first-come-first-served basis through Honda's Retailer network. The company plans to end European sales by 2026 due to evolving industry regulations. Despite these changes, Honda remains committed to celebrating the Type R's heritage.
Honda Motor Europe is part of Honda (Japan), known for producing cars, motorcycles, power products, and aviation technology. It is also involved in AI/robotics research and aerospace ventures like GE Honda Aero Engines and HondaJet production.
