Henry Catchpole Showcases Rare Honda NSX-R At Gelleråsen Arena Ahead Of Auction
The 2003 Honda NSX-R, a rare gem among supercars, is featured in a new video by Hagerty and Henry Catchpole. This model is one of fewer than 140 second-generation NSX-Rs ever made. It marks the first time in years that such a car will be auctioned outside Japan. The video was filmed at Sweden's historic Gelleråsen Arena circuit.
Broad Arrow Auctions, part of Hagerty, is set to auction this highly collectible Honda NSX-R at the inaugural Concorso d’Eleganza Villa d’Este Auction on 24-25 May. Joe Twyman, VP of Sales for Broad Arrow’s EMEA Region, expressed excitement about showcasing this rare vehicle. "The Honda NSX-R is a very rare sight, with most of the 140 produced remaining in their home market of Japan," he noted.
The Gelleråsen Arena, located near Karlskoga in Sweden, has a rich history dating back to its creation in 1949. The track has hosted non-championship Formula One races and Grand Prix motorcycle events. Motorsport legends like Jack Brabham and Sir Stirling Moss have raced there. In this video, the spotlight is on the Honda NSX-R, driven by Catchpole.
This particular NSX-R model boasts impressive specifications. It features a 3.2-litre VTEC V6 engine delivering 290hp. The car matched the Ferrari 360 Challenge Stradale's time on the Nürburgring Nordschleife. Introduced in 2002 for the Japanese market only, it epitomises Honda’s Type R spirit with extensive carbon fibre use.
The NSX-R includes significant upgrades to aerodynamics and cooling systems for enhanced performance and stability at high speeds. Its rarity makes it a star attraction at Broad Arrow's upcoming auction event. Finished in Championship White with red Alcantara interior, it has been meticulously maintained by its Swedish owner.
"It is very unusual for a Honda NSX-R to be made available for public auction outside of Japan," Twyman stated. He anticipates considerable interest from collectors worldwide due to its engineering excellence and rarity.
