Hampson Auctions To Showcase Classic And Performance Cars At Gold Cup Sale In Oulton Park
This weekend, Hampson Auctions is hosting its fifth annual Gold Cup sale at Oulton Park. The event, scheduled for Sunday, 27 July, will showcase a remarkable collection of classic, performance, and supercars. Since its re-establishment in 2020 by Managing Director Zach Hamilton, the Gold Cup has become a key highlight in Hampson's calendar, consistently drawing an impressive array of entries.
A standout entry is the unique 1984 Metro 6R4. Built by Scottish rally driver Murray Grierson on a Group B rolling shell, it features a powerful 2500cc Hart 420R engine. Grierson achieved notable success with this car, including third place in the 1989 Scottish Rally Championship. Recently restored in 2023, it is now eligible for Category 1 historic stage rally events.
Other competition cars include a track-ready 1981 Ford Escort Mk2 RS2000 in Rothmans livery and a fully restored 1972 Ford Escort Mk1 Mexico. The latter was originally driven by Chris Lord in the 1973 British Rally Championship. Additionally, there's a 1988 Renault 5 GT Turbo Cup car with race history and a rare Renault Clio Williams Cup Challenge car from 1994.
The auction also features an impressive lineup of performance cars. Among them is the 2023 Lamborghini Urus Performante and a rare right-hand-drive 1976 Ferrari 308 GTB ‘Vetroresina’. Notable entries also include a BMW E28 Hartge H5SP from 1984 and a Nissan Skyline R33 GTR V-Spec from 1995.
For those interested in more recent models, there's a Jaguar F-Type SVR from 2016 with just over 11,000 miles on it. A fourth-generation Toyota Supra Twin-Turbo from 1993 with fewer than 35,000 miles is also available. Both are expected to attract significant attention from collectors.
Classic Cars and American Icons
The sale includes classic cars like the charming and rare 1926 Lea Francis J Type Drophead Coupe with coachwork by Cross & Ellis. Family saloons such as the Humber Hawk from 1966 and sports cars like the Lotus Europa S2 from 1970 are also featured. Each offers something unique for enthusiasts.
American car fans can look forward to vehicles like the actual Cadillac Coupe Deville driven by Jon Hamm's character Don Draper in 'Mad Men'. This iconic piece of television history is expected to draw considerable interest alongside several Mustangs, including a genuine Mach 1 M Code from 1971.
Viewing Details and Additional Information
The viewing schedule begins on Friday, July 25th, running through to Sunday morning before the sale starts at noon. Interested parties can explore these exceptional vehicles during this time.
