GST Impact: Maruti Sells 30k, Hyundai 11k & Tata 10k Cars On Day 1 Of Navratri
The opening day of Navratri turned into a record-setting occasion for carmakers across India as GST reductions combined with festive sentiment to push sales volumes sharply higher. Smaller vehicles saw GST rates drop to 18% from he previous 28% while larger vehicles saw a drop in the overall taxation rate - GST+ Cess - to a new 40% flat rate.
Maruti Suzuki led the surge, registering around 80,000 enquiries across its dealer network on day one. Deliveries crossed 25,000 vehicles, with company officials indicating the number may touch 30,000 units as pending registrations and backlog clearances are added through the week.

Hyundai Motor India also saw unprecedented movement. The company reported wholesale dispatches of about 11,000 vehicles to its dealers on the same day. This marked Hyundai's highest single-day performance in five years, powered by reduced sticker prices and festive offers.
Tata Motors matched Hyundai's pace with its own milestone. The homegrown manufacturer delivered nearly 10,000 vehicles across India in a single day, while reporting 25,000 enquiries at its outlets.

The combined performance of these three major automakers highlighted the immediate impact of tax cuts on consumer sentiment. Popular models such as Maruti's smaller hatches, Tata's smaller SUVs, and Hyundai's entry-level models saw strong traction as buyers took advantage of the festive season benefits and the impact of the reduction in GST.
The demand spike came just hours after the post GSt reform price cuts were announced. Maruti's cars recorded reductions of up to ₹1.5 lakh, Tata cut prices by up to ₹1.25 lakh, while Hyundai slashed sticker prices by up to ₹1.24 lakh.
With Navratri traditionally considered an auspicious time to buy new vehicles, the GST cuts combined with big festive discounts amplified the usual festive interest, giving automakers one of their strongest opening days in recent memory.
The sales momentum of the first day of navratri is sure to set the tone for the remainder of the festive period. Car brands can expect momentum to continue through Dussehra and Diwali, supported by the reduced taxation and extensive promotional schemes on offer.
