GM Defense And EDGE Group Join Forces To Explore Strategic Defence Opportunities In Key Markets
GM Defense has partnered with EDGE, a technology and defense group based in Abu Dhabi, to explore projects involving light tactical vehicles and other technologies. This collaboration targets customers in regions such as the Middle East, Africa, Malaysia, and Indonesia. The partnership was formalised through a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) at the International Defense Exhibition & Conference 2025 held at the Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Centre.
The MoU outlines that GM Defense, a subsidiary of General Motors, will collaborate with NIMR Automotive, part of EDGE. The aim is to identify potential opportunities for joint projects. Steve duMont, President of GM Defense, highlighted the strategic nature of this agreement. He stated it represents a significant move towards integrating GM Defense's advanced capabilities into new global defense markets.
EDGE Group's President of Platforms & Systems, Khaled Al Zaabi, expressed enthusiasm about the partnership. "This collaboration reflects a shared vision to unlock new possibilities in defense solutions," he said. By combining EDGE’s regional expertise and infrastructure with GM Defense’s technical prowess, they aim to drive innovation and enhance operational capabilities across key markets.
The signing ceremony was attended by notable figures including U.S. Ambassador to the UAE Martina A. Strong; Jack Uppal, President of GM Africa & Middle East; and Abri du Plessis, CEO of NIMR Automotive. The event runs until February 21 at the Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Centre.
Visitors at IDEX can view GM Defense’s Infantry Utility Vehicle at EDGE’s outdoor stand CP-270. Additionally, EDGE's other technologies are showcased at stand C20 in Hall 5. More offerings from GM Defense can be found in booth 03-AO9 in Hall 3.
This agreement aims to localise GM Defense's advanced capabilities while expanding its transformational technologies into new markets globally. The collaboration promises to deliver mobility solutions that ensure high performance and reliability for mission success.
