Genesis And U.S. Soccer Foundation Launch Two New Mini-Pitches In Southern California For Youth Engagement
Genesis, the U.S. Soccer Foundation, and the MLS Players Association (MLSPA) have collaborated to unveil two new mini-pitches at Barack Obama Charter School in Compton, California. This initiative is part of a broader effort to expand Musco Mini-Pitch Systems across the United States. The project represents the third installation through Genesis's ongoing partnership with the U.S. Soccer Foundation.
The mini-pitches were inaugurated with a ceremonial first kick and an initial scrimmage involving children and coaches. Families enjoyed games and local food vendors, while participants received special jerseys to commemorate the event. These pitches aim to provide safe spaces for children to engage in sports and foster community connections.
"Genesis is committed to supporting youth and strengthening the communities we call home," said Brandon Ramirez, director of corporate social responsibility at Genesis Motor America. "By bringing these mini-pitches to Southern California, we’re helping create a safe space where children can stay active, dream big, and build a brighter future together."
The U.S. Soccer Foundation's Safe Places to Play program has installed over 800 mini-pitches nationwide, with a goal of reaching 1,000 by 2026. These facilities are strategically placed in high-density areas with limited childhood opportunities, impacting around 10,000 children per site on average.
Ed Foster-Simeon, president and CEO of the U.S. Soccer Foundation, expressed enthusiasm about expanding their presence in Los Angeles alongside Genesis and MLSPA. "These spaces will not only increase access to the game but also create more opportunities for young people to connect with peers and mentors," he stated.
The Musco Mini-Pitch System features a hard-court surface tailored for soccer programs and pick-up games. It serves as a community hub that encourages physical activity and provides more play opportunities for youth.
Commitment from Major League Soccer Players
"It's great to be a part of bringing these mini-pitches to the Los Angeles area," said Clarence Goodson, player relations manager at MLSPA. "Our players in LA, and across the league, remain dedicated to ensuring that the youth in the communities they live and work in have access to safe spaces where they can play, learn, and grow."
Through its Genesis Gives initiative, Genesis partners with organizations to enhance access to youth sports. Participation in sports promotes physical health while teaching resilience, collaboration, and teamwork skills.
