Genesis To Make Indian Debut By 2027, Hyundai Eyes BMW & Mercedes Territory
Hyundai Motor India has reaffirmed its plans to introduce its luxury car division, Genesis, to the Indian market by 2027. The announcement was made during the Hyundai Motor India Investor Day 2025, confirming what had earlier been hinted at in the company's FY2024-25 annual report.
Tarun Garg, Managing Director and CEO Designate of Hyundai Motor India, emphasized that the launch of Genesis aligns with the company's long-term vision to meet the evolving demands of discerning Indian car buyers seeking sophistication, performance, and exclusivity.

While Hyundai has not yet disclosed which models will arrive first, Genesis is expected to compete directly with established luxury players such as BMW, Mercedes-Benz, and Audi. The brand's global lineup includes the G70, G80, and G90 sedans, alongside electric models like the GV60, electric G80, and electric GV70.
In India, the introduction of Genesis will form part of Hyundai's broader product expansion strategy, which includes 26 new vehicles by FY2030 - comprising 20 internal combustion engine models and six electric vehicles over the next four years.
A significant highlight of Hyundai's plan is its commitment to local manufacturing. The company intends to produce Genesis models in India to reduce import duties and make luxury cars more accessible to Indian consumers. This approach not only underscores Hyundai's confidence in the Indian market but also demonstrates its belief in the country's growing manufacturing capabilities. Local production will allow Hyundai to price Genesis models more competitively while ensuring steady availability and shorter delivery times.
In line with global trends, Hyundai also plans to introduce electric versions of Genesis vehicles in India. The company aims to have four battery-electric models under the Genesis brand, reflecting its commitment to sustainability and the growing adoption of electric mobility among premium car buyers. With increasing awareness of environmental issues and government support for electric vehicles, Hyundai's timing appears ideal for entering this segment.
