Genesis GV60 Magma Revealed As Brand’s First Performance EV - 641bhp, 264km/Top Speed

Genesis, the luxury arm of Hyundai, which is set to come to India in 2027 has unveiled the GV60 Magma, the first model under its new Magma high-performance sub-brand at its Magma World Premiere today at Circuit Paul Ricard in Le Castellet, France.

The Genesis GV60 Magma sports a dual-motor all-wheel-drive setup rated at 601 bhp and 740 Nm in its standard configuration. Activating Boost Mode increases the output to 641 bhp and 790 Nm, enabling the electric crossover to accelerate from 0-100km/h in around three seconds and reach a top speed close to 264km/h.

The Genesis GV60 Magma features a single speed gearbox setup like most electric cars but borrows the virtual gearshift system from the Ioniq 5 N and the Kia EV6 GT, which adjusts the motor's power and torque delivery as well as the regenerative braking system so that it feels like the car is shifting through the gears like a manual-gearbox ICE vehicle.

Battery and charging specifications remain aligned with the standard GV60 range, including the 84 kWh lithium-ion pack supported by 800-volt architecture. DC fast-charging speeds of up to 240 kW allow for rapid replenishment, with a 10-80% charge taking around 18 minutes.

The Genesis GV60 Magma's exterior design reflects the deeper performance agenda without losing the clean lines associated with the GV60. The Magma variant sits 20 mm lower than the standard model and features wider fenders that accommodate larger wheels and tyres while creating a more planted stance that suits its performance identity.

Genesis has fitted 21-inch forged wheels wrapped in 275-section performance tyres, giving the GV60 Magma broader contact patches and enhanced mechanical grip. Additionally, the GV60 Magma features aerodynamic improvements including enlarged air intakes, a reprofiled lower bumper, gloss-black aero inserts and a functional rear wing designed to improve high-speed stability.

Inside the cabin, the Genesis GV60 Magma retains the brand's premium approach but adopts distinct performance cues. The seats and interior surfaces use suede-like materials with orange-grey contrast stitching, while Magma-specific branding appears on the upholstery, steering wheel and digital interfaces to differentiate it from the standard trims.

The GV60 Magma also receives an extensive upgrade suite to handle the increased power. The electric crossover features retuned adaptive dampers, a recalibrated electronic limited-slip differential and larger brakes with monoblock calipers.

The braking system incorporates oversized discs designed to resist fade during repeated high-speed stops, and the strengthened callipers offer greater rigidity for improved feel. Combined with the wider tyres and revised suspension settings, the braking improvements contribute significantly to the model's dynamic predictability on challenging roads.

Luc Donckerwolke, Chief Design Officer and Chief Creative Officer of Hyundai Motor Group, said, "Magma reveals a new facet of Genesis, one that elevates the brand towards true luxury through performance. It shows how emotion and precision can coexist in perfect harmony, defining a more confident and mature expression of Genesis. Through Magma, we're injecting adrenaline into the Genesis DNA while preserving the elegance and balance that define true luxury."
