Funcity Drift Joins Formula DRIFT As Official Affiliate To Boost Drifting In Taiwan
Formula DRIFT has expanded its presence in Asia by partnering with Funcity Drift, now the official Formula DRIFT affiliate in Taiwan. This collaboration aims to develop a pathway for Taiwanese drivers to obtain a Formula DRIFT competition license, enabling them to compete in the United States. The partnership also seeks to establish a licensing series in Taiwan, akin to the successful Formula DRIFT Japan series.
In 2024, Funcity Drift organised the TDGP series, marking the largest drift event in Taiwan's history. This series saw notable improvements in driver skills and vehicle performance, attracting more young drivers, including sim racers. Several race cars built overseas were introduced, enhancing the competition's calibre. The 2024 season featured over 40 drivers competing across three events and five rounds, plus a Taiwanese Invitational event.
The affiliate program aims to boost the sport's growth and visibility while integrating international drivers through team-based participation. This approach fosters collaboration and knowledge exchange among participants. For 2025, Funcity Drift plans to focus on developing TDGP Group N for entry-level competition and refining Groups A and B into more advanced series for the five-round championship.
Funcity Drift events typically attract up to 2000 spectators per round, with urban street races drawing over 10,000 attendees. These numbers highlight growing public interest in motorsports. The organisation aims to host engaging events across cities while ensuring strict adherence to rules and regulations. By aligning with Formula DRIFT's global standards, Funcity Drift seeks to become part of the FD family.
The 2025 schedule includes rounds in Pingtung on April 12-13, Taichung on August 9-10, and Tainan on November 29-30. Drivers in Groups A and B will accumulate points throughout the season, qualifying for the year-end Taiwanese Invitational.

"We’re committed to developing Taiwanese drivers and enhancing the sport’s public image," stated Robert Tsai, President of Funcity Drift. "Our ultimate goal is to provide the opportunity for the most successful Taiwanese drivers to obtain a Formula DRIFT competition license to participate internationally." This commitment aims to strengthen their series and elevate overall standards.
Formula DRIFT is renowned as a leading competitive drift series globally. It supports licensed partnerships with Formula DRIFT Japan and Southeast Asia while establishing new affiliations like SEADS Group. As an American-based motorsports series, it has become a global leader in drifting competitions.
