Fortescue Zero Introduces Ultra-Fast Pit Boost Technology To Enhance Battery Capacity In Formula E Racing

Fortescue Zero has been named the Official Pit Boost Provider for the ABB FIA Formula E World Championship's 11th season. Their innovative Pit Boost technology offers a 10% battery capacity increase in under 30 seconds. This rapid charging system is designed to deliver two boosts from a portable unit, independent of grid connections, enhancing race performance significantly.

The Pit Boost technology was first used in competition during Round 3 of Season 11 in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. It will continue to be deployed throughout the season's 16-race calendar, including events in Monaco, Tokyo, Shanghai, Berlin, and London. This deployment showcases Fortescue Zero's commitment to advancing electric vehicle technology on a global stage.

Fortescue Zero's ultra-fast charging innovations extend beyond motorsports. They have developed real-world solutions like a 6MW fast charger for heavy-industry vehicles. This technology is compatible with various battery electric mining equipment, demonstrating Formula E's role as a testing ground for commercial partners to develop and integrate new products.

The Pit Boost system is enhanced by Fortescue Zero’s Elysia software. This battery intelligence software optimises speed while preserving battery life and integrity. Elysia enables race car batteries to achieve a charging C-rate of approximately 15C, ensuring efficient energy use during races.

Ellie Coates, CEO of Fortescue Zero, stated that their technology pushes the limits of what batteries and infrastructure can achieve safely and innovatively. "The ultra-fast boost technology used in Pit Boost not only takes motorsports to a new level," Coates said, "it also has a follow-on effect to real-world practicalities including in heavy industry and on-road electric vehicle applications."

Jeff Dodds, CEO of Formula E, highlighted the significance of this development: "The successful development and integration of Fortescue Zero’s Pit Boost technology has not only been a positive game-changer for the racing our fans can expect but is one of the biggest new features introduced into world motorsports in recent memory."
