Formula E Jeddah Rounds 3 & 4 Results: Guenther Claims Victory In Thrilling Finish

Maximilian Guenther secured a thrilling victory for DS PENSKE at the first Jeddah E-Prix. He overtook Oliver Rowland at the final chicane. This win marked Guenther's first with his new team. Rowland now leads the Drivers' Championship with 43 points, while TAG HEUER Porsche tops the Teams' standings, and Nissan leads the Manufacturers' table.

The race introduced mandatory PIT BOOST pit stops, giving drivers an energy boost for strategic advantage. Guenther initially led from pole but lost ground as competitors used their PIT BOOST early. Rowland, Taylor Barnard, and Nyck de Vries gained an edge by using extra energy early on. Guenther saved his boost for later in the race.

As the race progressed, Guenther fought back, setting the fastest lap on lap 27 and moving into second place behind Rowland. With a slight energy advantage, he launched a late challenge in a four-car battle for victory. In a dramatic final lap, Guenther overtook Rowland at the last chicane just before the checkered flag.

This victory was significant as it was Guenther's first since Tokyo last season and marked the first time in 17 races that a driver converted pole position into a win. The result had championship implications, with Rowland taking the lead in the Drivers' standings ahead of António Félix da Costa. Meanwhile, Porsche led the Teams’ Championship by three points over DS PENSKE.

Oliver Rowland expressed some disappointment despite scoring valuable points: "We had a plan before the race and executed it pretty well. I’m a little disappointed because I had such a gap and if I’d consumed less energy I’d have had enough to defend from Max [Guenther]. He caught me napping a little and I couldn’t do much in the last corner."

Round 4 Highlights

In Round 4 of the ABB FIA Formula E World Championship, Oliver Rowland secured another win after smart energy management and ATTACK MODE strategy. This extended his lead in the Drivers' World Championship to 68 points. Taylor Barnard led early but had to defend against Jake Hughes in final laps to finish second.

Jake Hughes secured his first podium for Maserati MSG Racing, while Andretti’s Jake Dennis charged from 19th to fourth. This marked the first time British drivers occupied top four positions in Formula E history. Nissan leads both Teams' and Manufacturers' World Championship standings as they head to Miami for Round 5 on April 12.

Driver Reactions

Maximilian Guenther shared his excitement: "This win means everything to me. It’s the first with my new team and was a lot of hard work but an amazing outcome for us." He added that he didn't expect to come back all the way but believed until the end.

Taylor Barnard's performance as youngest-ever polesitter was notable: "The car felt like it was on edge, but super-happy with today." Despite immense pressure from Jake Hughes, Barnard held his ground to secure second place.

The series now heads to Miami for Round 5 on April 12, where teams will continue their pursuit of championship glory amidst intense competition.
